I've been watching a lot of videos about Straight shaving and am hoping to do away with the "training wheels" after 2 or 3 more shaves. Plus I have something special on its way in a few weeks I hope. More when it arrives!
Between the obsidian and the sharpened clam shells, one really has to wonder what motivations drove the earliest events in shaving history. "Hmm... me dare you to... scrape all hair from face!"
It doesn't get much easier than this for shaving my head every few days. I've been using this brushless head shaving cream from Eli's Extracts and this Trac II for darn near effortless shaves. The skin care of this cream is outstanding. However, I'm not sure if not having the nice feel of a scalp lathering with a big brush is enough of a trade off for me.
July Focus Day 11: Stirling Synthetic Brush Stirling Frozen Tundra Barbasol Floating Head Stirling Unscented PSB Stirling Glacial Lemon Chill AS A very quick, but efficient shave this morning. I packed my Frozen Tundra puck into a deodorant container for another shave stick, and it was a great, slick, and cool lather this morning. This blade was perhaps a bit tuggy, but I still got a DFS. Riding the cap is key to success with these razors. I still wish I would have followed @Bama Samurai's advice earlier, it is a difference maker! I hope everyone has a great day!
my tetanus shot is up to date. I would have to order a rock to use. We have uranium deposits in these mountains and they make some of the rock UV reactive because of the radiation.Makes for a crumbly edge. Also, very little shell or obsidian. I would try cave man shaving at less twice.
SOTD July 11th (7-Eleven free slurpee day) (Last Minute change up no pic) Cooper Monobilt Wilkinson Sword(5) Stirling 24mm Synthetic Dr Jon's Hydra In an effort to sync up with Neal for the blade trial of the Dorco ST300 I decided to delay the first shave with that blade until Wednesday. So I took my 4 time used Wilkinson Sword classic the dropped it into my Cooper MonoBilt to squeeze one more shave out of it. The Sword was still plenty sharp but overall it had harshness to it that was a little unpleasant. The Dr Jon's Hydra smells so good you might be tempted to taste it. If you like citrus you will love this soap. It is strongly scented as well, the fragrance enveloped the whole bathroom in its fresh citrus scent. The Stirling 24mm has become my top choice when reaching for a brush. It has the fabulous soft Plisson style tips but the knot is set in such a way that it provides a little more much needed backbone. In the end after 3 passes I was rewarded with a BBS shave and only had one spot on my neck that was a little warm with the Alum. Have a great day my friends!
July 11,2016 July Focus on two non-Schick razors: PAL InjectoMatic Personna Floating Head Razor: PAL InjectoMatic Blade: Schick China (1) Two-day growth, two-pass shave - XTG, ATG I first shaved with this razor last summer when I obtained it. Had a feeling it might be a keeper. The shave achieved BBS with only the two passes and minor touch ups. But I did get a couple weepers and the shave seemed rough. My guess is blade angle so I'll be working on that with subsequent shaves. Cheers! RT
In the Good Old Shavertime! July 11 Blade Palooza Razor - H1 Gillette Slim(2) Blade - (1) Soap - Arko Brush - Wolf Whiskers Custom Silvertip Post - Alum, Nivea Welcome to the start of Blade Palooza, for lack of a better name. On the blog I used something else but hey, it's all the same thing and I'm sure it will change. Day one of the Sharp Star and it was a great shave. As I said before, these posts are the shorter version as you can find the boring and more detailed on my blog. Easier to keep it all together there for later use. Computer is giving me a couple of fits today so that also encourages me to be brief. Keyboard doesn't seem to want to work and the external I plugged in is giving me fits as well. I'll figure it out. Finished with a nice DFS today. Final thought? Want to see what the blade does at higher settings. I don't think it likes mild razors as much as some others, though it was a very nice shave. Happy Monday!
Ancient Egyptian royalty removed all hair with bronze blades for religious reasons. That would be the oldest definitive example I know of.
That answer is probably complicated. Truthfully, due to their language system and lack of modern speakers, very little is actually known about shaving in Egypt, but it's mentioned in "The Book of the Dead". The Old Testament in the Bible also tells the warriors that they must remove their hair and beard with a bronze razor, I believe it's in the book of Jeremiah. It would also be interesting to know of the history of razors in India and China, but I've never read about it.
Sounds like an interesting study. I have wondered before who started the whole shaving thing as well. I have read some articles that suggest it was more to control the various parasites that love to live on furry mammals. Ticks, lice and all that. Remove their home and life becomes less irritating. Then, of course, common customs get formed and away we go.
On another thread I catching a little TSD grief (not really grief, but you know what I mean) due to the appearance of the razor and the lack of cleanliness. The Eli's Extracts creams seem to develop an oily scum that is different than what I get from soaps. I don't consider it to be a problem.
So in order to make my blade trials somewhat consistent with yours. I'm thinking the flare tip for the mild shave, the red tip for the medium, and the new short comb for the aggressive. I know the new technically has a small blade gap but it seems far more aggressive then the two SuperSpeeds
