Can you use a modern day blade in these razors? Are all hollow ground SE blades able to be resharpened? I can't find these particular blades but I'm seeing lots of PAL blades for sale.

    Blade: Chinese Schick
Razor: Schick Adjustable Injector (on pass-around from @twhite)
    Brush: Artisan badger
    Lather: Soap Commander Fortitude
Post: Witch hazel splash, Nivea sensitive balm
    WTG

Nice one-pass shave this morning. Fortitude by Soap Commander is a great scent. I'm terrible at scent descriptions but their "Hay, Tobacco, and Rum" line is dead on. Beautiful lather, wonderful post-shave feel - all the things you look for in a great soap.

I set the Schick Adjustable on 6 today. Smooth shave again. I've really enjoyed giving this razor a trial run. It's fun to try out new hardware and software without risk.

    Have a great day!

You Very Rarely See these Hollow Ground SE Blades for Sale..You Probably would Need to get Some from a Set that's Getting Sold..Even then they Can be Un Restorable...Youre Best Bet is Looking on EBay France for a Cheap Set with Decent Blades..The Heljestrand shaves Like Crud with a Gem Blade though it Can be Done..You can Use a Gem Blade with Most Lather Catchers with Shims but Hey its Hardly the Real McCoy..:D

A Modern Blade in a Lather Catcher...Well..You Wont Sniff their True Potential with a Hollow Ground..:angelic007:

    Today's Shave: Tuesday August 2, 2016

    Ernst Scharff Rapide
Rapide wedge blade (6th shave since honing)
    The Grooming Co. synthetic brush
    Chiseled Face Groomatorium Cryogen soap
Chiseled Face Groomatorium Ghost Town Barber aftershave

Like @Billyfergie I am a huge fan of the C. V. Heljestrand razor with a properly honed & stropped blade. However, this Rapide is giving the Helje a run for the money. Billy, have you tried one of these? If razors were cars the CVH would be a luxury sedan (a Volvo?) and the Rapide would be a high performance sports car (a Porsche, perhaps). It's light, agile and definitely capable of hurting you if you let your attention wander.

This one is an earlier model (1891 patent) with the set screw blade holders and no blade stops. While this was intended to compensate for blade shrinkage after being repeatedly honed, it in effect makes this an adjustable razor, as the position of the edge in relationship to the comb can be varied. It does have little guide marks as a suggested starting point.

This was the 6th shave for this blade since I honed it, and my new strop took it to a new degree of smoothness. I did my usual 3 passes and a little touch-up, although the touch-up wasn't really needed. The result was an excellent BBS shave, no weepers or irritation, just super-close excellence.

After the shave I gave the blade another quick stropping to clean it and a coat of vaseline before putting it away until next time. These razors require a lot more maintenance than disposable blade razors, but the rewards are worth it. There is something magical about shaving with a blade that you yourself have honed and stropped to a magnificent edge. :happy088:

Great Write Up Bob...Exciting & Magical Aint they..Yeah I had a 1891 Early Model & I Let it Go..In Retrospect I Should have Kept it Cause My Honing Skills have came on in Leaps & Bounds..At the Time my Blades weren't as Forgiving & Smooth & it was Perhaps Showing Up in the Rapide at the Time...As You Say..The Rapide Can Bite without Due Care..Its a Great Razor..:)

Beautiful setup Billy! I'm curious how you like the Humphries compared to regular ol' witch hazel? Same/different?

Tonight I started getting back with my Wedge.
After reading Bob and Billy's reports on their wedge razors. I got motivated to get back at it. Karl sent me some 15 micron lapping paper that I desperately needed. Billy turned me on to a bevel setting video. So off I want to sharpen a blade. I have attempted this in the past, with some success. That meaning I was able to get thru the shave with no blood. I could bet 3 or 4 shaves from it. It was nothing like the blade Bob @spidey9 did for me. That sucker was wicked sharp.

So this time I was able to get a nice even for me bevel set. Then proceeded to hone it. This took a better part of an hour mind you. Looking at the blade, it looked pretty good. So tonight it was time to test my handy work. Keeping my story short. I had 3 fine passes with no tugging at all. I finished with a DFS. Very happy with my results. I will be sticking to this blade with my other wedge razors. I want see how the edge holds up. I am really concentrating on my stropping strokes. Trying to keep even pressure on each stroke. This is going to be a long learning curve. Although from my shave tonight I believe if I stick with it. I will be in store fore many great shaves.

    Hi Tom,
Just used PAL Adjustable loaded with Schick single from Japan. Initial impression , so far the best blade I have used in this Razor - report in S or S

They are quite expensive compared to the " Chick" - but they are nice as a treat and for me cheaper than getting NOS, whose cost is increased by high postage charge. Very surprised some enterprising guy has not imported them into USA

Nice One Tom..Aye the Stropping Tom..You Probably Know But there Shouldn't be Any Pressure So to Speak..A Very Light Touch..Only the Weight of the Blade..There is No Right & Wrongs on this One But I Strop a Blade After Honing for around 100 Sets the Same as I Do with an SR Off the Hone..I Find it Smooth's them Out Big Time.. :happy088:
