You didn't give up on roasting your own, did you?

At least for the summer, maybe I'll pick it back up in the Fall. It's just a bit hot to be roasting over me grill side burner in the summer. Buying the fresh roasted coffee is certainly more convenient, and the roast is more consistent. A pound of green coffee beans ($6 at Sweet Maria's) makes a little more than 12 oz of roasted coffee, which I can get for $8 at Fresh Roasted Coffee. FRC also sells green beans, the prices are a little higher but they have free shipping on orders over $35, so it probably works out to be the same. On a future order from them I will probably order some of the same beans both green and roasted, so I can do a taste comparison with their roast versus home roast.

French Press normaly. When we we have people over we go to the cheap drip machine.

At the risk of repeating an earlier post, I make sure to add cinnamon to my coffee(anything to fight this prediabetes)

Folgers Columbian(2 cone-fulls)in 4-6 cup "Mr. Coffee" pot. That was this morning.
Martinson's Decaf(same amount in same pot). That will be this afternoon.

It will be deja-vu all over again til the cans run out.

image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg I enjoy restoring these older 50/60's Italian espresso machines. The Vam \ Caravel Arrarex. Occasionally sell one but end up finding and restoring again. Recently sold a nice 1.3 ver. Only to replace with this 1.0 ver. I like this new to me yellow body.
Here it is drying during some assembly after a 24 hrs O2/detergent and mild brushing. I replaced all the gaskets including the portafileter seal. I also upgrade some of the internal wiring to new high temp. Should last another 50 years.
Secret is to add boiling water to kettle to expedite time to desired temp. These are not high power machines. The water sits in a kettle above the burner and never makes contact with it. They make for a wonderful clean cup of espresso. On a side note I'm in the process of getting some pricing on having some bottomless portafilters and tampers made.

Folks, we have seen a lot of back-to-back posts (by single posters) in this thread, which have had to be merged. If you think of something else, shortly after having posted (or if yours was the last post) , please just edit and add it to your existing post. Thanks.

Coffee's been good but stomach is getting upset again, just like it did two years ago during the last move, so I gotta switch back to good ol' Kava low acid instant. Tried a good pinch of bicarb of soda in the pot; helped for awhile but not now.

Incredible how the body can be easily habituated even in low amounts to caffeine. I use to drink coffee Mon-Fri and wondered why I felt like a zombie on weekends. Finally figured this one out. :signs131:

Hario ceramic grinder > French press. It's a science for me. I felt sick all day because I didn't have coffee today. Never knew it would be so bad.

Well, three weeks out of the two-year warranty the heating element died. I've probably brewed somewhere around 650 pots of coffee in those two years, so I guess that's not out of the ordinary. Now I'll have to decide if I want to spring for the newer BV1900 or the smaller BV1500
