    August Focus Day 9:

    Stirling Synthetic Brush
    MWF
    Gem Damaskeene
    Stirling Unscented PSB
    Aqua Velva Ice Blue/Musk

I used this razor for the first time this morning. It was a terrific shave. This razor is smooth and very easy to shave with. I did two passes for a DFS. And it was very enjoyable.

I read a thread on here about home recipes, and one was mixing equal parts Aqua Velva Ice Blue and Musk. It sounded good, so I went for it this morning. It is actually pretty good. The Musk seems to dominate the scent a bit, but you do get both of them, and they work well together. It was a good topper to a great shave.

My son (5 years old) was with me when I was taking my picture last night, and he wanted me to get his taken too. Here is his planned shave for this morning:

Another fantastic shave with the X3. It feels so mild yet it is very efficient. It is consistently delivering BBS shaves now that I have the angle down. Time to try it with a different blade. Have a great day my friends!

I haven't yet tried a Slant. Someone answered my question about a Left Handed version. No, all are Right Hand biased. I'm still curious.
Are they a new innovation, or is there a Vintage option for Slants?

There are vintage slants, I think one of the most sought after is the Hoffritz Slant. Very similar to the Merkur 37C. There are also many vintage bakelite slants.

It shaves beautifully. I'm so impressed with it. It doesn't hurt that it was honed by @HolyRollah

    Stirling Barbershop

Another great shave this morning. The PAL adjustable just plain works. Excellent feel in the hand, efficient and comfortable. I'm very glad I bought it. Everything else worked flawlessly today. The Stirling soap lathered easily, the alum was silent, the Thayers felt good. First use of the Stirling aftershaves today and I'm very impressed. Great scent (Barbershop is my favorite), nice post shave feel, cooling menthol. I shaved 7 hours ago and I can still smell it. Have a great day folks!

August focus: Fighting to stay in the den

This is the second shave with my TI 7/8. I prefer big blades and the shoulder less design so this razor already has points.

The razor came honed but I took it the pasted strops to ensure it can put it's best foot forward. The edge was very smooth this time and reasonable sharp. Four passes and the alum test gave zero feedback. I thought for sure I caught the baby but just missed. So far this razor is moving in the direction of earning a spot in the regular rotation. But there will be more competition.

The purpose of a slant is to present the blade at an angle relative to the direction of stroke. It doesn't make a difference which direction the blade is angled. Just shave as you would any DE and the head geometry does the work.

    Blade - [IMG] (2)
    Soap - Arko
    Brush - BoS Omega 10066
Post - Alum, Nivea, Aqua Velva Musk

Another super busy day off. Need to stop this right now! These days are supposed to be about working on my blog, cleaning gear, spending extra time on here. Well, summer is summer I suppose.

Second day on the Silver Star Super Stainless and I am quite impressed. All three passes were smooth and effective ending in a near BBS again. So close I could have had it but decided to just take the great shave and run with it. I'm thinking the blade may be sharper than I thought at first. The Gillette Stainless was very sharp and definitely showed it at the highest setting. If this one does the same we'll know for sure. Or at least have a definite idea.

No irritation from the alum beyond a couple of stings where I worked the slide steeper than usual. Otherwise, great shave followed by the classic AV Musk for the day.

Last day of a week long visit, going home tomorrow. Uneventful shave. I'm liking the Derby blade the more shaves I get from it. Expecting degradation soon, but it's still smooth.

    Day 7, GSB 1

Day 7. It was darn near 100F today, and a relaxing cold water shave was a great evening refreshment. The GSB is holding solid at seven days. Enhanced blade life is one of the benefits I perceive from the technique called "riding the cap." Bringing the bevel in at a more direct angle slows the process of plastic deformation, extending the useable blade life over my earlier techniques (or lack thereof). Blade sees a day eight, 30 Day Rule still in effect. Other than that...all is quiet in Colorado.
    Have a nice Wednesday!
