    Hi folks, I just received a razor I scored from a seller in France on eBay. I won the auction a couple of weeks ago, and the razors and blades just arrived today. I'm sharing it here because this is a thread dedicated to open combs, and I think you all will like this. The razor in question is an open comb Tech. The date code is K-3. I don't know if it was made in England or France. It has no inscription of country of origin. I think the baseplate is made of steel but the handle is aluminum, and the cap is probably zamac. Here's a couple of photos-

    Thank you Clint64! I had an OC tech head on a mismatched handle, but this is my first NOS OC Tech set.

    Hello all, tonight I decided to shave with a razor that I have had in my possession for a while now, but never got around to shaving with. The razor is an Old Type Clone, that was manufactured in Japan. I contacted an expert in Japan about its origins, but the markings on the razor didn't tell us much. It was produced by an obscure, and virtually unknown company in Japan sometime in the 1950's. The company probably got swallowed by another company in a past merger and there is little information about it. So anyway I dug it out and shaved with it tonight. The shave went well, I used a superlather of Proraso Red cream/soap, which was very slick and provided great protection. The blade I used was a Gillette Silver Blue, and this was its first use. Post shave was Nivea followed by Avons Mesmerize aftershave lotion. I had my usual two pass shave, first pass WTG, second pass XTG. The overall impression of this razor is that it is fairly mild. I also had trouble aligning the blade. It took several tries. But all in all I rate the shave as a DFS. I don't think I'll be using this razor very much. Here's the photo-

    What's the difference, in how it affects your shave, between the long and short comb 'New' razors?

    Gillette New improve from 1928-29. A bit aggressive for me -the blade is not straight over the plate, a little slanted-but so beautiful that I agree with only a couple of nicks; this "price" for a wonderful shave is just a dime.

    Took out my Gillette Short Comb Head on custom handle today and paired it with a Voskhod blade. Along with FS Badger Brush, Menthol PSO, Proraso Green Cream, Orange Witch Hazel and Stetson Black AS Balm for a very good and comfortable BBS shave.......... IMG_0651.jpg

    Hi all, here's tonight's OC SOTD;

    1930's Gillette New Debutante set New.
    Gillette Silver Blue blade.
    Kent BLK2 badger brush.
    Proraso Red soap/cream Uberlather.
    Nivea post shave balm.
    Vintage English Leather aftershave.
    Vintage English Leather cologne.

    [IMG]

    For tonight's shave I dug out my mint Gillette New Debutante set. I have seen numerous other New Debutante sets since I got this one a few years ago, but none of them were as nice as this one. I got lucky when I scored this set. It's one of my nicest. I used it tonight paired with a Gillette Silver Blue blade, and that was a good choice. The razor/blade combo coupled with the Superlather of Proraso soap and cream made for a great shave. Topped off with the vintage English Leather as, and cologne made for a great shave. I'll rate this shave as a definite BBS. Thanks for reading, and have a great night.

    This set up almost guarantees an automatic near perfect shave. MdC is exceptionally easy to lather and when properly hydrated provides a nice slick lather. The Wolfman OC with standard blade gap consistently provides smooth drama free shaves. This morning produced just such a shave. I finished off the shave with a splash of Fine L'Orange. I hope everyone has a great Tuesday.

    Hello fellow Denizens, today's OC SOTD as follows;

    1909 Gillette ABC set Scroll razor.
    Gillette Silver Blue blade.
    Kent BLK2 badger brush.
    Proraso Red soap/cream Superlather.
    Nivea post shave balm.
    English Leather aftershave (vintage).
    English Leather cologne (vintage).

    [IMG]

    A fantastic shave. The razor is one of the earliest ABC style razors with the wide teeth. These razors are known for their smooth yet efficient shaves. The Gillette Silver Blue blade paired well with this razor. That and the Uberlather of Proraso Red shaving soap/shaving cream mix made for an awesome shave. I topped it all off with the vintage English Leather aftershave and cologne, and I feel fantastic! And smell good too! I rate this shave as a BBS, no doubt about it. Thanks for your interest, and have a great evening!
