Now for something completely different . . .

The Pushbutton was one of the last Gem SE's, preceding only the Contour/Countour II. Combined with a Gem "Push-Pak" blade dispenser, the Pushbutton made blade changing nearly as easy as an injector.

Like the other late Gems the Pushbutton is a mild shaver, although a brand new Gem SS ptfe blade resulted in a shave that was surprisingly close. In the past I've used the Pushbutton to "break in" new Gem SS blades, using a new blade for a couple of shaves in the PB before switching the blade to something more aggresssive.

The Pushbutton was at the forefront of another trend, and not a good one. While the cap and base plate are still made of plated brass, the handle is a combination of plastic and cast Zamak (zinc alloy, aka "pot metal").



Zamak is used because it is cheap and easy to cast, having a very low melting point. It is also highly susceptible to corrosion and is always plated with some other metal (chrome in this case). If flaws develop in the plating, things go downhill fast, as seen above. I don't think I'll be handing down this particular razor to my grandchildren.

These days most non-premium 3 piece DE's (EJ, Merkur, Muhle, etc.) have heads made of Zamak.

I really like the looks of the PB and find the handle very grippy. I hate the way it shaves, I can shave all day with it and not achieve a close comfortable shave. Ineffectual for my tastes.

Yet another great shave this morning. I really like the PAL, I'm figuring out the Semogue and the Osage/Florida Water combo is fantastic. First try with the Stirling Ozark and I love it. Nice shave this morning with these products. I'm trying to finish up this little amount of La Toja that's left. It's such good lather and good soap.

The G1 injector continues to be a great razor. The Barbasol Pacific Rush grows on me each use. I like the menthol kick and the scent is good but doesn't linger forever.

Sounds Good Tom..When You Hear Folks Spending a Lot of Time Honing its a Sure Sign they are Not Setting the Bevel..In Fact..Its a Certainty..All the Magic Happens on the Bevel Setting Hone..That's it in a Nutshell..That's the Key that Opens All the Locks for the Progression to the Finishing Hone..

Wonderful three pass shave this morning with the Schick E2 injector. Easy, slick, rich lather from the Tabac shave stick. I am dolphin smooth and refreshed. Have a great day friends.

Fat Friday! It's been a while since I've used the GEM Pushbutton. Overall nice shave but a little stinging in the sensitive area of my lower neck probably from a little too much pressure. Fine American Blend is a great scent to top off a nice shave.
