Just like razors though. Bad technique hurts sometimes.

So would it be completely out of the ball park to say that the difference between bad shaves and good shaves is technique and the difference between good shaves and great shaves is gear ?

If you play golf, be sure to get him hooked on Vintage Solingen straight razors. Seems only right, one AD for another.

On an individual level that could be undeniably true.

Better gear greatly increases the likelihood of great shave in the hands of the skilled. Technique reduces the likelihood of bad shave outcome like irritation or injury when using lesser gear.

I need to get me a couple vintage Solingen razors first! I do plan to see if I can get him to use a DE or two along the way. I would just rather put the money I would have to spend on even a cheap set of clubs into razors, brushes, soaps, AS, . . . . . . . .

Take it from those who bear scars. If you learn with an expensive straight, you'll have the same scars as with a merely adequate straight.

But yeah...you should totally grab a couple of quality restored blades. Cookie?

    Awesome Adjustable Arko August!!!!

    August 23

    Grand Blade Trial

    Razor - 1962 (H1) Gillette Slim (6)
    Blade - [IMG] (2)
    Soap - Arko
    Brush - BoS Omega 10066
    Post - Alum, Clubman

Day two of the Rockwell and I'm still trying to figure out the exact origin of these blades. Unfortunately for @wmbjr and everyone else, still no definitive answer. It's been over 24 hours since I emailed the company asking nicely, I might add, about the blade. Dead silence. You'd think they were in Moscow or maybe the Middle East or something. I assume I'm not asking a trade secret. Even a "yes, in the USA" would help. I suspect that's the case, but yeah, curiosity.

Day two was better. Seemed like the blade liked the 6 setting. Smoother than yesterday and with me able to adjust angle a bit I got a really nice first pass. And a nice nick on that pass too on my neck. I'm puzzled by that, given how the blade had smoothed out. Second pass didn't have any other problems going XTG and the final ATG/Slide gave me a very nice DFS. Just that one little nick. I'm going to write that off as not the blade's fault. If the blade was the culprit I'd expect either more nicks or lots of irritation, and the Alum was quiet except for the nick.

Looking forward to seeing what I get out of the wide open Slim tomorrow. And, sending another email. Bug 'em until they answer, I always say.

One more note - Used the Omega 10066 today to see how it handled Arko compared to the Semogue 620. Both are great brushes but....based on one time each, I'm leaning Semogue. And that surprises me given my love for Omega brushes. I'll keep working them against each other but I do like the 620. A lot.

I use cheap clubs and golf balls so I have an excuse for errant shots. 'I think this 5 iron is effective.' or "I need to stop buying this cheap Chinese knock-off balls, they are not even round.' Never blame yourself.

    Yeah. Still doing it.

Awesome weather today, overcast and 80F, what a relief! Other than that...all is quiet in Colorado!

    Have a nice evening!

Preseason in the den continues, today my western grind Rasurpur from Münsterland is on the field.

This razor feels so good in the hand and easy to maneuver, combined with a very smooth and sharp edge it delivered a solid shave in 4 passes. A's across thee board.

    Irritation A Closeness A Smoothness A Sharpness A

Given the cool gothic look, being from Münsterland and the great shaves I am confident this import will retain her starting position.

I have a special scoring system, I count how many balls I loose and find. So if I loose 6 balls and find 2 then I am 4 over.

It's true the last box of Nieki balls I used were not round..... but it fixed my slice and improved my putting.

Thank you. It has unique retro look and unlike some non-standard razor it shaves great. You can find one at http://www.rasurpur.de/english/ They even have them in Damascus steel;)

I prefer to golf in Thailand instead of Korea where I can get a massage after the round.

Well I have a response from Rockwell about their blades. And the answer is.........they'll tell me in about a month when they can. Apparently they are still in the filing process of all of the legal stuff that has to be done with product registration etc., so they asked me for specific information I was looking for and, when they have their due diligence done, they'll provide the information. I certainly have no problem with that and, since they responded about 2 minutes after I posted today, I can't even claim they ignored me. Very polite and apologetic about the situation, actually. No reason for them to apologize, though. It is a business concern and has to be handled right.

On another, less serious (?) note - I added a couple of after shaves to my collection in preparation for September. I now have Old Spice and Stetson among my collection. The Stetson is actually in a glass bottle and was less than 6 bucks at Walmart. I thought SWMBO might like that one but at first sniff I didn't get much response. Guess we'll see.

My slice is so bad I sometimes have to turn 180 degrees to follow the ball. That can cause back strain as well.
