Nice find and yes, that's definitely German. It's "Sütterlin" handwriting, a writing system that had been taught in german schools from about 1915 to 1955. Pretty hard to make out though, because handwritten letters often don't exactly match the standard characters. As far as I can tell from the picture the travel kit was a present to a guy named Emil from his mother Ilse in Germany in June 1952.
Excellent finds John, I agree that Flag & Sail can be hit or miss. Sometimes it goes bad with age, but it sounds like you got everything for a good price.
Received this NIB/NOS Wilkinson Classic DE in the more unusual solid black knurled handle and silver-colored cap.
A couple of belated birthday presents from my Mum turned up the other day. She does have good taste. She sent me 2 lather bowls Firstly this lovely little Old Spice Mug. My first ever so I'm really happy with it. Also it's the perfect shape for a couple of Muhle soaps that I have. Secondly this amazing Japanese Suribachi bowl, (I hope i spelt that correctly ). It fits perfectly in my hand, whips up a great lather and looks great.
