This was the view last night around 6:30 as the sun tried to shine through the smoke from a forest fire around 35 miles west of town.
I was in the mountains with my family for a short holiday. We only made it one night (not a week) due to heavy rain, but we saw some great sights. Here are a few pictures I took while on our trip. Peyto Lake, Alberta White Heather, Peyto Lake Indian Paintbrush, Peyto Lake Athabasca Glacier, Alberta Small Glacial Flower at the toe of Athabasca Glacier Horseshoe Lake, Jasper Alberta Bow Lake, Banff Alberta Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
The Milky Way over Calgary and Cochrane. I finally went out again last might to do some photography. I like the way this one turned out! Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
I'm camping in Jasper, Alberta right now. Jasper is home to the Miette hotsprins, but the current pool is not the original. The original pool house closed down over 30 years ago. The ruins are still available to anyone, though some areas have a short fence that can easily be walked around. Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
Here are a few photos from my camping trip this weekend. Little Bow Provincial Park is where I stayed. The first is an 18 image panorama of the milky way; the second and third are 9 picture panoramas (taken with my cell) of the clouds earlier in the day. The dynamic clouds made for excellent pictures over the prairies....and yes it cleared up for the milky way to light up the sky! Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
I took my daughter to a camp site. I looked up I suddenly felt tiny compared to these trees. I haven't edited or filtered it. This is how I saw it.
The aurora was very bright last night! Here are a few shots from last night. The purple streak in the sky is what is now known as Steve, formerly called a Proton Arc. It is a rare unknown phenomenon that scientists are trying to figure out. It appears in front of the aurora storm, sometimes, swirling around like a horizontal tornado.
