    Henckels Rapide / Schick G1
    Blades Grim Smolder
    Satin Tip The Purest

Well I wish I could say that I had a good first shave with the Rapide but it wasn't. The blade was honed by a professional but was still very tuggy. I managed to complete the first pass with it despite the tugging but then went to rinse my face off and hardly had any reduction. Rather then continuing with the Rapide I decided to finish up with the G1, which performed wonderfully as always. I will have to see how the blade I honed performs, hopefully better. Have a great evening gents!

Billy, is that a stropping handle specifically for the Empire? The handle for my Rapide is too big to hold the Empire blade.

Its a Gem Junior Bar Stropping Handle..I Used it because these Auto Strops can put too Much Pressure on the Blade in My Opinion..Although the Empire Stropping System is Better than Most Auto Strops..:)

Now that's an interesting question. As you mentioned in a subsequent post, the Auto-Strop pre-dates the Wilkinson Empire by a good many years. The Empire has a wealth of features (roller comb, adjustable, wedge blade), some unique, but the self-stropping mechanism is indeed very similar to the Auto-Strop.

Henry Gaisman held a number of patents on his Auto-Strops and was quite zealous about protecting his patents. About the same time the Empire was introduced (1930) he was using a blade patent to take over Gillette! (Technically Gillette bought out Auto-Strop, but for twice what it was worth and the deal included Gaisman becoming president of Gillette.) So it seems unlikely that Wilkinson could simply appropriate the technology with no consequences.

Possibly there was a licensing agreement between Auto-Strop/Gillette and Wilkinson, but a quick search turned up no documentation. A puzzle . . .

Perhaps Wilkinson just jumped on it when Autostrop's two decades old patent ran out (as happened with Gillette patents a few years earlier).

    Today's Shave: Saturday September 3, 2016
(Okay, technically this is yesterday's shave - I've been busy lately)

The General w/CBW custom red cedar handle
    Feather AC Professional blade (5)
    Stirling 24mm synthetic brush
    Stirling Electric Sheep soap
    Pinaud Clubman aftershave

I've been using The General from Colonial Razors since it arrived on Monday and it continues to impress. I've experimented with different handles and this red cedar model from a local artisan pairs nicely. It weighs next to nothing and with the aluminum head of The General brings the total weight all the way down to 1.2 ounces - no more than many injectors. Indeed, it shaves a lot like an injector - a very wide injector. Performance is on a par with my ATT SE1 - at a third the price. Color me impressed.

Today's shave was ultra-close, dolphin smooth, BBS, (insert superlative here) and just plain slick. This was as good a shave as any I can remember, with no irritation or weepers.

Despite this outstanding performance, current discussions have me longing for a wedge blade shave. Tune in tomorrow, er, later today.

Marvelous shave this morning with the PAL Injecto-Matic loaded with a Dutch Danglies blade. I'm getting an average of five great shaves with these blades and I'm golden with that. Excellent, slick, bountiful face freezing lather from the Stirling Glacial MITA shave soap. Three refreshing passes for a dolphin smooth finish. Have a great day friends. :)
