    Today's Shave: Saturday September 10, 2016

    Schick G6
NOS Schick Super Chromium blade (1)
    Fine Angel Hair synthetic brush
    Haslinger Schafmilch soap
    Pinaud Lilac Vegetal aftershave

I've never been a huge fan of the Schick G. Not that I dislike it; I just find my early E2 to be smoother, more aggressive, and all around a better shave.

However, this G6 was included with some NOS blades I recently acquired, and the translucent handle looks so cool that today I just had to give it a try.

Loaded with a NOS Schick Super Chromium blade it was a pleasant surprise, giving me the sort of smooth BBS shave that I've come to expect from the E2. :happy088:

Did I mention that the translucent handle looks really cool? :signs021:

  3. It does look really :signs021:
  4. Today was my last shave with this 1912. I'm going to miss using it, the shave is so remarkable. This one has the curved cap and is very smooth. I'll be moving to the 1914 tomorrow and the later on the 1912 with the flat top and beveled edge. I'm looking forward to seeing the difference. I haven't really focused on this type of razor just the occasional use. Anyway enjoy the weekend folks!

  6. Ok calling @spidey9. What do you know about this razor? Clauss patent 1906 it takes a proprietary blade. But I have already despined. SE and it will work. It too will take a Valet blade. So i can assume a Feather too will work. Anyhow what is the scoop on these?

    Thank you in advance.
    Before pictures.

After scrubbing bubbles. 2 soaks in the baking soda and aluminum foil. Then a final light buff with some polish.

  7. Cool looking razor. What is the purpose of the notched handle? Does it operate the head or...?
  8. Yes it does. with the pin at the bottom of the notch it locks the head down. When you twist the bottom handle CCW it springs the head open to load blade. It works very nicely.

This throws a wrench the in SEptember really bad. I will have to use more than planned. Wo am I.

  9. You might enjoy this lovely bit of product placement Douglas. For those who prefer the clean sweep of tempered steel as it glides...(even if it cuts you every morning).

  10. What I know about it is . . . not much.

Here is Waits' entry in its entirety: "Clauss Shear Co., State Street & Sandusky Ave., Fremont, Ohio. Hoe type, single edge, comb guard, twist handle to open. Manufactured c. 1910"

I do know that the Clauss Shear Co. was founded in 1877 by two brothers of German descent named John and Henrie Clauss. Their primary business (as the name implies) was shears and knives - in 1890 their shears manufacturing plant was said to be the largest in the world. They also had a line of straight and safety razors until around 1920 or so. The safety razors appear to have all used proprietary blades and Clauss was never a serious competitor to Gillette, ASR, Schick, etc.

Clauss Shear Co. is now known as Clauss Cutlery and is actually still in business, owned by Acme United Corp. They now produce primarily landscaping and lawn care cutlery - but no razors.

    Blade
    : Treet Super/GEM Stainless
    Razor: GEM Micro-matic Open Comb
    Brush: Vulfix 2006c badger
    Lather: Mama Bear's Joop Type
Post: Witch hazel splash, Speick, Stetson Caliber balm
    WTG, touch-up

Evening shave after a busy day. The GEM MMOC gives me close shaves but I always get a few nicks or irritated spots. I started with a Treet Super blade and had to change it out during the first pass. It felt terrible - not smooth, not sharp. So I chucked it and changed to a GEM Stainless. It immediately felt better. The lather from Mama Bear's Joop Type was not as good as the other day but it worked okay. I made it through with a pretty good shave but ended with several tiny nicks and weepers and a little irritation on my neck.

    Have a great evening!

Excellent shave this morning with the Schick N1 loaded with a twin blade. Wonderful lather from the Palmolive shave cream. I'm growing out a goatee, I haven't done so in quite some time. Last time I did there was a lot of grey and I had to touch it up with some "Just For Men".:happy102:Have a great day friends. :)

  18. A late afternoon shave with the 1914. Lots of noise but very smooth. This one is BBS for sure, one close shave! I still have a few more razors to work through this month. Clogpruf, Bullet tip, G bar, MMOC and one more 1912. So far I'm enjoying my shaves very much. Stay cool everyone!

  19. A really nice shave today. Didn't shave until about 2, and used the Schick B2. The angle is always a bit tough to maintain on these IMO, but I manage. I was sure I would have weepers and irritation, but no feedback from the AS and nothing else. Nice results, who woulda figured! 20160911_130534.jpg
