today`s shave.freshly honed Bengall 6/8. this was a real challange.honed it 3 times before i was satisfied. after first honing there was a little spot that was not sharp.think there had been no contact with the hone.used one layer of tape. second time, three layers of tape.got good edge/hone contact all along the edge, but the shave was far from smooth.
so after som good advises from very knowledgeable members here at tsd i honed a third time.this time it was a success.very smooth and comfortable shave:)
  10. Shave 19. First shave with this 5/8 JR Torrey that landed in my mailbox earlier this week. Another good shave but I'll be going back to my Otto Busch Weltmeister for consistency of practice as I continue to climb the learning curve of straights. :git:

  11. SOTD: Vintage Solingen steel for this morning's early morning shave. This restored Böhler-Stahl 5/8" is a sweet shaver that remains a fixture in my SR arsenal. L'Occitane 'Cade' soap, Omega silver tip and Fine Snake Bite finish.

  14. We have an Adelaide shaving group and one of the members is a razor/knife maker. It is extremely hard Damascus and it took me an eon to set the bevel and then finish the edge. To maintain the Damascus on the spine I used layers of tape. To finish I used my C12k then my kiita Kan and finally about 20 laps on my Coticule with oil. It is surprisingly easy to shave with and very nimble. I have another one that is spring or machine steel or something like that? It is a softer steel but also takes a very fine edge. Both of the blades are semi wedge like or at maximum 1/4 hollow. Robbie did a great job on the blade for me.

  18. I have a sweet spot for western grind kamisori razors. Thank you for the info. Does the maker do this for a hobby or does he sell razors?
