1. I've been a bit out of the loop in terms of what people are using for re-plating services here in the US these days.

    I'd like to get this guy re-plated when I get it this week;

    So, I asked RazorEmporium how much it would cost to bring it back to something like this;

    ...and the quote I received was;

    Thank you for your e-mail, your Goodwill can be brought back to its original glory with our Revamp service. You have two difference options, one is Mirror Finish, this is the shiniest and will make the razor stunning, surpassing its original finish. The second is Factory Finsih, Gillette did not mirror finish the brass before plating, this finish is true to that with a shiny surface but not mirror shine.

    24K Gold Mirror Finish is $169
    24K Factory Finish is $129"

    Now, it's not that I don't think they would do a smashing job...it's just that $130-170 dollars for a re-plate is a bit outside of what I was looking to spend on it. Maybe I'm being completely un-realistic when I, in my head, had pictured it to be about $70 or so?

    Anywho, if anyone knows who is doing good re-plating right now in the U.S. at a potentially lower cost do let me know...

  3. I agree.
  4. I think he stopped taking orders. At least for now :(

    Update:

    UPDATE: 9/12/16

    From Razorplate:
    To Customers and Potential Customers,

    Due to unprecedented demand and the volume of jobs already in-queue, I am now booked beyond capacity.

    I must place a TEMPORARY stop to any new, incoming jobs - until I can clear the backlog situation.

  5. It would be worth it, He's very meticulous in his work. And good prices also.

  10. I also had the same idea, although not original finish, still a good option. My idea if I was to get one of the Goodwill razors was to do it in two different colors so you could see the contrast between the head and base from the top.
  11. My understanding is that they also do original finishes if asked for.

  12. Ok, I didn't know that. Have to look closer at the site.
  13. I just got an email from him and maybe he will be able to work on it in about six-seven weeks. Not too bad.

  14. I have not but I will now :). Thanks.

    Just emailed them. Price-wise it seems like HIBCO is hard to beat at $75 for 24K gold replate.
    It would be interesting to have Chris work on it though as he does get a lot of praise.
    We shall see. Thanks all for suggestions.
  15. I've seen his work and I think he is the best. Very reasonable prices.
  16. not a bad price, certainly better than Razor Emporium
  17. Yeah, I'm sure razoremporium does stellar work...but $130-$170 felt very high.

  19. Maybe it's the 24K only?
  20. I remember not long ago it was around $100.00. They have gone up
