Yes, yes I would. I haven't checked with my local slaughter houses for boar bristles. But it's on my list. Those knots appear to be badger. No glue bumps yet? Do you live in China, or keep your own badgers?
My 400, user grade, so I hit it with a Scotch pad and used a Tuxedo knot. A little copper slip on the threads and I am good to go.

Whoo. I'm about ready to put a knot in. Just a quick note - after you've sanded through diminishing grades of wet and dry until your arms are useless, polishing with aluminium polish and then finishing with turtle wax makes one heck of a difference! I'd like a fan shaped knot, rather than a bulb, or although I quite like the look of those tuxedo synthetics, because they're black with white tips. I can't decide between a synth and a boar. I'm in the UK, pondering. It's not a great picture, sorry.
Thank you. I'd never done anything like this before; it was a big deal for me. I've learned a lot, thanks to this thread. I didn't even want one, before I saw this thread! I'm very pleased.
I have a Rubberset 103 that belonged to my dad, and my grandfather before him. Can I not join the club?
We're going to need photos. Technically it's The 400 Club. There have been folks reproducing the shape in similar or totally different materials. Sharpen up your ebay & antique store shopping skills! You are welcome to hang out and drool. I, myself, was an admirer before I found my first 400.
I'm itching to set my Tuxedo knot. I picked up a fresh package of J B Weld but I'm not sure it's the best idea to use that to secure the knot. Seems very permanent. I thought about rubber cement, too. I'm digging through my doodads looking for a spring that fits inside the ferrule to choose my loft. To those that have experience; Silicone caulk for a temporary/ permanent fitting? Latex & silicone? Or is there something you prefer?
After seeing some of the lovely pictures in this thread, I got my Omega 10066 brush today; the knot is really tall. I'm wondering how to transplant it into my 400. I suppose I will need to attack the plastic handle with a saw. Once I get the knot out how do I go about fitting it, please. How deep would you guys set it? If I use silicone rather than epoxy resin, do I squirt it around the knot, from the bottom? Is silicon strong enough. Is it the same stuff that goes around your sink and bath? How do you keep the knot straight and set at it's correct depth? Don't panic, Mr. Mainwaring!
