I'll be back this month, an I plan to pick up my Den clearing Focus. Last month was not overly productive, as I actually had a net gain in razors, but this was all part of the plan. The more difficult part of last month was that I enjoyed every SE razor so much, I am not sure which ones to keep and which to let go. Well, I can settle at the end of the year when I plan to actually clear things out. This month, I will continue working through my razors. I have one OC, the Phoenix DOC, which used to be a favorite. It will be interesting to see how I like it now that I haven't used it in almost a year. I will scatter this one throughout the month. I will also try some SR shaves on Sundays where I don't work. One thing I do know, I am definitely looking forward to another month of fun with everyone on the thread. This thread is one of the things that keeps this forum so much fun.
Those are all three fine looking shaving machines! If they shave as good as they look you're in for a great month!
Nice! Very sweet collection. You are going to have a fun month. I love that little travel razor too. I think that's the one Geofatboy uses in one of his videos. I would love to give that razor a try sometime. Yep, it's on my RAD list as of NOW!
I keep pacing back and forth between here and there. Debating Grande or Piccolo. And waiting for some feedback. But I see one in my very near future.
Thanks! I appreciate that. I have heard the white is a bit different but I'll give the sandalwood a try next time I do a soap order. I like that scent anyway so I need a good option for it.
Not sure what my focus will be this month. I am traveling for a week so I will decide when I am back. I will check on the shenanigans when I have time and access.
I did a month with the Grande. It rewards those who have skills, and punishes sloppy technique harshly. The razor has decent heft and feels good in the hand and on the face. The heads are the same, I believe.
The base of green and red seem very similar. The red is technically "Shea butter and sandalwood" and the green is "Eucalyptus-menthol". Not much perfumery, just EO and Shea type scents.
Hmmmmmmm.......maybe if we ever institute a series of shaving tests for technique on this thread we should use the FaTip for the final exam. Use it without any blood whatsoever and you are the Valedictorian of TTT!
OCtober 1 SOTD: Stirling Synthetic Brush MWF Phoenix DOC Stirling Unscented PSB Mountain Mike's Bay Rum The first shave of October, so I figured I would break out the DOC. It was sometime in October or November of last year when I last used this razor. It didn't disappoint today. It was a smooth and easy shave. I will say it wasn't quite as close as the SE razors I have been using, but just ever so slightly. I would still rate this as a DFS, and it couldn't have been here easier to get there. I also used some Mountain Mike's Bay Rum for the first time today. It is a lot different than my other Bay Rums, and in the palm of my hand the smell of Rum was heavy. I was a bit concerned I wouldn't be able to use it, since I have to go to work. Now, I am a bit disappointed, as the scent has almost completely dissipated. It is very light on the skin. I hope everyone has a great day!
I recall this being asked last year, but would an Ever Ready 1914 or a Gem 1912 be considered an open comb?

October 1, 2016 Wolfman WR-01 OC with Triad SS Feather (1) Rubberset 400 #3 with WSP HMW Route 66 Twisted Tweed Witch Hazel Floid Blue Happy October. This has to be one of my favorite times of the year. With the start of fall, the temperature in Hot Atlanta become cooler making for some better motorcycle riding weather. And October also means OC razors. Open Comb razors are my favorite type of DE razors for the shave they provide and the aesthetics. I just think they look cool. The monster 400 whipped up the Twisted Tweed into a mountain of rich slick lather. For me a slick soap has enough residual slickness to touch up spots without the need to reapply lather. This is not a recommended practice but one I use on a regular basis provided the soap is up to the task. I went with a 3 pass shave this morning and paid attention to the my trouble spots as I went. With minimal touch ups, I had a near perfect shave except for that spot on the bottom right side of my neck. Apply a light coat of lather, I buffed that area smooth. Mission accomplished and the baby caught. I finished the shave off with a splash of Floid Blue. Overall I would rate the shave as A+ closeness and A+ for irritation. I can't imagine a better shave.
