October 1 Gillette New LC Feather blade, the Official Blade of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games Kent BK4 brush Tabac shave stick Thayer's Lavender witch hazel and unrefined shea butter Hello everyone. I'm in for OCtober using my Gillette New LC, a gift from @Rufus T., and easily my favorite DE razor. Two passes this morning on a day and half of growth with mountains of slick Tabac lather, and I'm near BBS. The New LC is a welcome change from the B2 Mongoose I've been using for the past few weeks. I've been away for a few months, but I'm excited to see the 30-day group still going strong. You may recall that I'm just here to learn technique, and I don't go in for all those shenanigans. My comments about @NCoxSTL and his use of those V------ (my fingers just couldn't type the letters) blades are strictly for edification purposes.
Well I'm off to a strange start for a new month. Early morning meeting today and I just wasn't feeling it. So, I'll delay a day on the month. No shave today but I'll be on track tomorrow. My first setup for OCtober will be the Gillette New with Voskhod using MWF and the Wolf. That's tomorrow's plan followed by three days on the Trial with the Viking Sword Israeli blade. Some great looking gear showing up here this month. Looks like a great month shaping up and some fantastic razors of all types. OCtober has a lot going for it!
We'll try to keep the Shenanigans down to a minimum for you sir. Trust me....I sell stuff. Oh, and just to help you out....it's quite easy to type those letters. Just a V then O, then S, then K, then H, then O, then D. What's it spell? Amazingly sharp and smooth shaving......with the finest Russian steel. As smooth as a quality vodka you know.
Oct. 1 Soap - Proraso Green Tub (as I have a spare, I need to burn through some). Brush - Omega 10098 Boar (because I want it good and broken in and I want to get consistent lather with it). Ceramic Suribachi Bowl Blade - Blade - Gillette Silver Blue - Russia (I've got a bunch) Razor - 1937 Gillette Sheraton Aftershave - Gingers Garden Green Irish Tweed aftershave splash & cologne Great start to OCtober, boys. The big boar loaded up with a tremendous amount of soap that whipped up to an overflowing bowl of foam. I put a new blade into the Sheraton & took an un-rushed 2 pass shave, wtg & xtg. This was my first shave with this razor & for some reason, I thought it would be more mild. It was not harsh, but it knocked down 2 days worth of stubble in one wtg pass & left me smooth enough to pass a cotton ball test after the xtg pass. This aftershave / cologne combo is sublime. Overall one of my best shaves. I anticipate a BBS with this combo before the month is done, if this wasn't one already. Great Shaves, gentlemen. Happy OCtober.
I can't get over how awesome the handle is on that Chubby. Really great brush. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Wowzer - I have a Koraat 6/8 and that's the biggest and heaviest straight razor in my small collection. Can't imagine what an 8/8 looks (and feels) like
Did I miss that? Sheesh.....less than a week to my birthday and the old age is kicking in harder already.
Hello again, TSD First shave of October Focus - and at the same time my first shave ever with a shavette. - Mystic Water "Egyptian Dragon" - Maggard Synthetic - Feather SS - Feather Professional blade (shave 1) - Tüff sensitiv Rasierwasser Oh WOW, what an incredible shave - this Feather thing is fantastic! But let me start at the beginning. From the 10 Mystic Water samples I got I chose the Egyptian Dragon for my first focus shave. Great decision - this soap has a wonderful scent, some wood and musk, flowery stuff, a bit of spice, at the same time it's a little sweet ... I'm getting faint notes of vanilla and even a bit of chocolate. From my experience with MW (which admittedly is rather limited) this is one of the stronger scented soaps. I did not press the sample into a bowl, I just rubbed the half-moon shaped slice over my wet face and startet lathering with the damp brush. Worked like a charm - nice, slick, yoghurty lather in no time, despite our very hard water. First I had to find a comfortable way of holding this kamisori-style shavette. And the first 2 or 3 strokes were very light and cautious, but then I grew in confidence and used the Feather like I use any other razor. First pass WTG was incredibly smooth and gave me some very nice stubble reduction, pretty close to a DFS. I could have stopped here, but I wanted more - and so I lathered for a second pass, this time ATG. And I have to say - ATG this is one (if not THE) most comfortable razor I have used so far. No tugging, extremely close shave, completely BBS face. In fact the result was so good I think I won't have any considerable hair regrowth tomorrow - so no shave until Monday BUT (of course there's a but) this razor punishes you for being sloppy. I screwed up the angle on my left jawline just for a part of a second - and promptly cut myself.. Nothing serious, just a tiny bit of blood, but still - these feather blades are scary sharp Finished the shave with a cold water rinse and a splash of Tüff Aftershave - and to my surprise there was almost no AS burn at all. And apparently these MW soaps provide really good skincare. So my first conclusion: this will be a fun and most enjoyable month! Have a great sunday.
You are off to a great start on the Feather. Thank you for the description of Egyptian Dragon. It is on my list of MW soaps to try.
