Might have to name this razor the Borg. Oh wait, that's "you will be assimilated". My bad.

Grand Blade Trials - Day Off

    Razor - Gillette New LC
    Blade - voskhod-teflon-coated.jpg (2)
    Soap - Mitchell's Wool Fat
Brush - Wolf Whiskers Custom Silvertip
    Post - Alum, The Veg

As promised, I'm opening the month with an open comb, my New LC. I've always had a lot of love for this razor though I use it rarely it seems. I'm always chasing after blades and trying the ridiculous dangerous things so this fine instrument has to spend too much time waiting for its turn. I paired it with a Voskhod (of course) that I had used one time on a rescue shave during trials.

What a fantastic shave this razor gives. The Fat was luxurious and slick today and three passes was BBS without a problem at all. The razor is nice and aggressive but still doesn't feel like it. I think the long comb gives it a bit of a milder feel even though it's tearing it up right behind it. And in a good way.

Alum was quiet and the Veg set me up for a great day on the floor today. All in all a great shave to start the month and my day and I'm motivated to jump back into the Trial tomorrow with the Viking Sword blade from Israel. Hope your Sunday was a great one and that OCtober is off to a great start for you as well!

Since OCtober is also Halloween season I thought some ideas for Russian Halloween costumes might be in order. Here's one you might consider. Wouldn't take too much vodka to feel comfortable in this look.

Thank you, Clint. I really like the scales. I am not always a fan of wood scales, but I think they did a great job on these.

The razor is definitely big, but roughly 10 hours later, and I am still close to a DFS quality shave. So, it is very capable of getting the job done.

I am a bit rusty on my Star Trek villains and their sayings, but I believe resistance is futile also comes from the same guys. "Borg" almost seems appropriate.

Gillette New LC finished in Gun-Kote Bronze by Delta Echo Razor Works
    Feather blade (2)
    Kent BK4 brush
    Tabac shave stick
Thayer's Lavender witch hazel and unrefined shea butter

    Hello everyone.

Two quick passes this morning (WTG face/ATG neck and ATG face/XTG neck), and I have a Darn Fine Shave. I can't say enough good things about the Gun-Kote finish on the razor. I think it gives the head some extra glide on the face, and it cleans up easily. Tabac is one of my favorite shave soaps - lots of volume, which I prefer, and very slick. Some shavers describe the Kent BK4 brush as being floppy, but I like the soft feel of the knot. It's good for working up the lather in circles and then finishing with some long painting strokes. I usually reserve this brush for travel and use the larger Kent BK8 at home. Coming off a long run with the Mongoose, it is taking me a day or two to relearn the proper angle for the New LC. I finished with some witch hazel and unrefined shea butter, and my shave is still fairly close some 12 hours later.

I plan to slow down and enjoy tomorrow's shave more than today. Hopefully, I can catch the baby in two passes plus a few touch-ups.

I hope you all had a terrific Sunday!

Doug, that razor is a beauty. Too bad the handle is cracked, but I'm sure the head would shave great on a different handle. :happy088:

    Blade
    : Chinese Schick
    Razor: Schick L1 injector
Brush: Satin Tip 'The Purest' synthetic
    Lather: Stirling Barbershop
Post: Witch hazel splash, Stirling Barbershop aftershave, Nivea sensitive balm
    WTG, touch-up

This shave started off rough. I put in a new Chick blade last night and it must have either been a dud or I ran the edge across the stops because it was quite uncomfortable. So I quickly swapped it out for another blade with better results. I had two days of growth. First pass reduction wasn't so good so I had to do generous touch-ups to get a decent shave. I may used a tad too much water today in lather building as it was a little thin.

First use with Stirling aftershave. Nice stuff! Silky feel on your skin and good scent. Have a great day!
