I really like the 1912. Always enjoy shaving with it but I do so rarely. I know what you mean by "using a razor from a more genteel time". I just imagine when that was as good as a shave had ever been.
Thanks Charlie! The Blades Grim soaps are very nice. Excellent sickness and cushion. They are actually made by an artisan that makes other house brand soaps for other vendors including Maggards. The scents are very unique and this one smells like roasting marshmallows by a camp fire. This is also my wife's favorite scents of all the soaps that I have. Sent from my Galaxy S6 using Tapatalk
Menthol Monday Shave Brush- RazoRock Tri-color Razor- Ever-Ready 1914 Blade- GEM Soap- Stirling Ozark Mountain Post Care- Crystal Alum Thayers Witch Hazel Osage Rub Bombed Aqua Velva Another wonderful shave with my Ever-Ready 1914. This Stirling soap may be my favorite scent especially for fall. My RazoRock brush has been packed away for a couple months. It whipped up a wonderful lather instantly and I didn't have to reload it like the boar and badger. Three passes and I'm BBS everywhere. Finished up with some Osage Rub followed by the bombed Aqua Velva. Excellent menthol kick. Have a great day folks!
Razor: Timeless OC w/Hempel Ti Blade: Wilkinson Sword (3) / Gillette Silver Blue (1) Brush: Simpsons CH1 Chubby Best Badger Soap: Route 66 Frozen Margarita Aftershave: Booster Iced Lime The Wilkinson wasn't holding up tonight so I replaced it after 2 passes. The GSB is one of my favorite blades. I usually have good results with the Wilkinson in my vintage Gillette razors. Not to worry. The Frozen Margarita work perfectly as usual. The addition of the Hempel Ti handle helped to make this shave a DFS.
The Frozen Margarita worked perfectly....oh......the soap. I had a different mental picture in mind when I read that the first time. Even considered for a second having a Frozen Margarita theme month. Gotta have some type of adult beverage as you shave. Just for extra effort points.
3 October 2016 Fatip Grande Gillette Silver Blue L'Occitane Plisson Synthetic Proraso Eucalyptus and Menthol Alum Osage Rub Decided to stick with the Grande. Neal needs this razor. Fatip has superb geometry, and had a great shave on two passes finished with the venerable Osage. I didn't get nuts with it, but I love the freeze. 50mph wind and high fire danger today on the prairie, snow coming Wednesday night. Other than that...all is quiet in Colorado. Have a great Tuesday! ☺
Options include nickle, chrome, gold, or gun metal. If the gun metal finish has shown to have a short life, I wonder about the gold. As I understand the plating process the brass pieces are nickle plated, then gold plated. Don't know about the chrome type. Any Fatip owners care to comment about the finish on their units?
Is the gun metal like a blued finish, or a coating like delta echo uses? Rhodium might be too shiny, the chrome as well. The razor does have classic lines that suit either nickel or gold like a vintage Gillette. The price is right too. Is this the unit I've heard folks having problems about centering the blade? Has it been corrected? Fumble fingers post via Kyocera / Tapatalk (subject to later editing)
OCtober Focus confirmed! C.O.B. & Omega #248 in Suribachi The Bunny V3.1/MILD & Chick blade Alum and Osage Rub AS Menthol Monday aligns with OCtober Focus for a fortuitous event. Straight from The Makers keyboard I'm told the B-V3.1 is an Open Comb razor. With Venus in the sky near a waxing crescent moon I grabbed up my only menthol creme and continued SEpember's smooth shaves. Wet my face, applied a dab of cooling C.O. Bigelow, and set the Pro boar brush to lathering. That one almond sized dab did well for three passes and some great Bunny Slides. I was rewarded with an even all over tingle from the alum telling me I'd gotten as close as I dared. Two splashes of the O.R.AS with no chaser. Good times!
Hi guys and gals, I've been thinking about a focus for the month of October and have decided to bail from this thread for the first time. I have learned a ton in the fifteen consecutive months I have been participating. I get consistently nice, blood free shaves with just about any razor I pick up thanks to you people. I have acquired a ton of razors that I have not been able to use, because I was always in a focus. I want some time just using whatever setup tickles my fancy on a given day. I do reserve the right to jump in and start or participate in the occasional shenanigans. Who knows, I might even offer some encouragement Have fun and see you in SOTD.
You're on the faculty here. Whatever. Thank you for being a part of this for so long. Enjoy putting the skills all over the new gear. You did it the right way.
Nice. @twhite 's design is also accepted by Cartel-Kyoto to be true OC. OC injector...unique and cool.
Thank you. My skills improved exponentially once I joined the focus group. I like it enough that I'm sure I'll be back with something to focus on when I finish playing with my toys. I'm actually curious to see how things go when mixing things up.
So, after fifteen months of practice and reading.... What are your top three bulletproof tips for new converts?
