Jim, congrats on your second anniversary with TSD! Mine was last week, so we joined within days of each other. I've enjoyed getting to know you and following your journey.
SOTN OCtober 4th Gillette Old Type head \ Cadet handle Voskhod (2) Stirling 24mm Synthetic Tabac Nivea Sensitive ASB Good morning friends! I had this shave last night before bed. The famed aggression of the Old Type can be easily tamed when you ride the cap and keep a light touch. Three easy drama free passes resulting in a DFS that left me relaxed and ready for bed. On a side note I don't know if there are different levels of aggression in the Old Type heads depending on when they were made but this one is a pussycat compared to my Le Coq. Have a great day my friends!
October 5, 2016 Timeless OC .95 Gap with Hempel Ti Feather (2) Doug Korn DK7 with Druida Manchurian Nuavia Rossa Witch Hazel A wonderful shave this morning to help with hump day. I absolutely love the DK7 brush from the ergonomic handle to the wonderful knot. The DK7 whipped up the Rossa quickly into a rich slick lather. Sticking with a traditional 3 pass shave and minimal touch ups ended in a near BBS. I really can't ask more on a work morning. I hope everyone has a great Wednesday.
Andrew I too think they are different levels of aggression in Old Type heads. since I had one that was extremely mild.
The Delta Echo New LC looks great. Did you have one refinished or buy it directly from Delta Echo. I am thinking about having a Gem 1912 redone.
October 5, 2016 Razor: 20s Thick Cap Ball-End OT Blade: Rapira Super Stainless (2) Brush: VdH Boar Soap: Williams Not a lot to say about this one; pretty much another effortless shave. While getting dressed this morning, it occurred to me that my father, if he were alive, would be 98 this year. And here I am, shaving with a razor that would have been new when he was a boy. Heck, he grew up in Brooklyn, NY, home of the Gem 1912 I used on Monday and which also dates from that era. Small world, I guess...

Thank you, Clint. I received this razor as a generous gift from Vince and had it refinished in August 2015. Turnaround time was quick, as I recall. I think you will be very pleased to have your Gem 1912 refinished. I can't wait to see it!
Thank you for responding. I move very slow Charlie so it could be next year before I go forward with refinishing.
Oct. 5 Soap - Proraso Green Tub Brush - Omega 10098 Boar Ceramic Suribachi Bowl Blade - Blade - Gillette Silver Blue - Russia Razor - 1937 Gillette Sheraton Aftershave - Fine Accoutrements L'Orange Noir Another very good shave this morning. The prorasso whipped up a nice bowl of lather and another 2 pass shave WTG & XTG leaving me with a borderline BBS. This is my 4th shave with this blade and it was plenty sharp. I couldn't help myself. I ordered some samples of Terre d'Hermes because I like the L'Orange Noir so much.
This month I am going to focus on trying out some of my untried razors. In honor of OCtober, I took this baby for a test run. The Vibro-Shaver is a windup vibrating razor. This one has a Gillette Old Type head on it. I loaded a GSB, wound it up and proceeded to shave. I did the first pass in vibro mode and found it a little difficult. The side button has to be pressed with the thumb to keep it running. I found this awkward and gave up half way through the second pass. I finished up holding the handle lower and ended up with a very nice BBS. I really like the Old Type heads. Big Shave Soap Wolf Whiskers Brush Vibro-Shaver Gillette Silver Blue (1) Lucky Tiger Big Shave Splash AS Have fun!
October 5 Gillette New LC finished in Gun-Kote Bronze by Delta Echo Razor Works Feather blade (2) Kent BK4 brush Tabac shave stick Thayer's Lavender witch hazel, unrefined shea butter, and Fine Platinum aftershave Since I shaved less than 24 hours ago and have minor neck irritation from earlier this week, I performed one careful pass (WTG face/ATG neck) for a darn fine shave. I paid extra attention to the basics: prep, lather building, blade angle, short strokes, and no repeats. With proper technique, a one-pass shave gives me good results. Enjoy your Wednesday!
John, thanks for sharing these happy memories of your Dad. I have the same thoughts every time I shave with my New LC. My Dad passed in 2001, but he would have celebrated his 101st birthday in November. I imagine him shaving as a teenager with a New LC. It would likely have been one of few razors in the house shared by my Dad, my Grandpaw, and my Uncles. I have tremendous respect for that generation. There will never be another one like it.
