    Today's Shave: Tuesday OCtober 4, 2016

1901 Kampfe Bros. Star Lather Catcher
    Kampfe Bros. wedge blade
    Whipped Dog 24mm synthetic brush
    Stirling Barbershop soap & aftershave

This 1901 Star is unusual in that it has "KSR" cut into the guard rather than the usual "STAR." It has adjustable side blade holders, but they are adjusted from the rear of the razor, rather than the sides or top. It does have small blade stops, so I imagine that a modern blade could be loaded. I don't know for sure. I've never had any desire to try it, much preferring the shave with the classic blade it was designed to use.

What does KSR stand for? Kampfe Star Razor? Kampfe Safety Razor? Who knows?

This star shaves pretty much like the other Star lather catchers, smooth, aggressive and ready to bite if you are foolish enough to let your attention wander. However, show it the respect it deserves (it is, after all, 115 years old) and it will deliver a memorable shave.

Wow, how we all differ. I like my C1 less than my C2 by a considerable margin, and know in my heart the C3 will be my favorite (if I ever find one)

    Blade
    : Chinese Schick
    Razor: Schick L1 injector
Brush: Satin Tip 'The Purest' synthetic
    Lather: Stirling Barbershop
Post: Witch hazel splash, Stirling Barbershop aftershave, Nivea sensitive balm
    WTG, touch-up

Stirling Barbershop products continue to provide the backdrop for nice shaves. The L1 is a mild razor that is treating me just fine. I'd like to try it with a Twin blade at some point, but that means I'd have to scour the internet to find some Twins. I'm in no hurry. The Chick blades work really well for me.

Hopefully you all won't get too bored with the pictures from this setup as I'll use it for most of October. Have a great day!

For the beard two passes with the Gold Dollar, final with The General (still getting the hang of the straights) . The General on the head shave was much less smooth than the Injectomatic and I2. Whether that's the Feather Pro Super in particular talking, or simply the wide AC blades being trickier to manage on the dome I dunno.

    Blade- GEM

    Post Care- Crystal Alum

Another great shave this morning with the 1914. Everything just worked; the soap, the brush, the blade, the razor, the aftershave...everything. It's been 11 hours since I've shaved and I'm still BBS. I've gotten several compliments on the Blackbeard AS and I can still smell it. Have a great day folks!

    Today's Shave: Wednesday OCtober 5, 2016

    Gem de Luxe
PAL Super carbon steel single edge blade (1)
    Whipped Dog 24mm synthetic brush
Chiseled Face Groomatorium Sherlock soap & aftershave

The Gem de Luxe was the very first of the 1912 style of razors, being introduced in 1911. It does not have the Pat'd 1912 marking around the handle mount, but simply "PAT" on the back, which I assume meant "patent pending."

The spring-loaded brass blade holder is also believed to have been the first blade dispenser.

The shave was extremely smooth. Surprisingly, the de Luxe is less aggressive than later 1912's. It still shaves very close, giving me a near BBS shave with little effort on my part. It is a whole lot more forgiving than the wedge blade lather catchers I've been usoing for the last few days.

Above we see the Gem de Luxe on the left with an open comb Damaskeene on the right.

The "PAT." can clearly be seen.

This is one of the finest razors in my entire collection.

One of the most beautiful sets known to man....My Compliments Bob....
    Heres an advertisement...
    image.jpg
It's my understanding August Scheuber received the patent in the same year he applied for it, 1909....I haven't checked my notes...but I know August and JB deMesquita both applied for their patents around the same time in 1909 for their respective new razor designs...August for his first 1912 type and deMesquita for his 1909 the New Ever Ready (first shovelhead 1924 type) and deMesquita definitely received his patent in the same year....So I'm thinking so did August....

    I'll check and be back...

Thats a terriffic find Bob, and I'm sure she shaves as good as she looks....August was definitely an Artistic Genius...

My bad....while he applied for it in Sept of 1909 he received the patent on Feb. 27th 1912....Therefore.....the 1912.....

Wonderful shave with the PAL Injecto-Matic this morning. Excellent, rich, slick lather from the Figaro Monsieur Gold shave soap. Three easy refreshing passes for a dolphin smooth finish. The weather has begun to worsen as the hurricane inches closer. Have a great day guys. :)

Nice shave with the L1 injector and Stirling products. It's fun to use a soap consistently as you learn its ins and outs. Stirling is nice stuff!

    Have a great day!
