It is really an excellent shave soap. I find it very easy to lather (You have to work it a little). It has a long lasting, slick lather, good protective cushioning with good post shave conditioning. I really like it. Thank you Charlie (@wristwatchb) for sending them to me.
Shave 4 After yesterdays shave, I decided to take it back to the 5 micron. I did 100 very light strokes and then moved on to 3 micron. I finished with 1 micron with some paper underneath. i gave that 100 super light strokes. It popped arm hair all the way across the blade. Not touching any skin I finished with a few strokes on the CrOx and some ferric oxide. Followed by 100 on the strop. I did 2 full passes going ATG on the second pass. Finished with touchup on my neck. Nice all around shave. I will see how long this edge lasts. Tom Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
OCtober-een! October 8 Grand Blade Trials Razor - 1962 (H1) Gillette Slim (6) Blade - (2) Soap - Arko Brush - BoS Omega 10066 Post - Alum, The Veg Well, sometimes you get surprises when you trial blades. Today was one of those days. Sorry I'm late, by the way. Work was much busier and longer than I expected. Not complaining at all, just behind. Thought I'd have time to post this earlier. So, some surprises are good, some just interesting and some very bad. In my usual world the bad is the normal surprise. Not so today though. The Tomy is a blade I don't think I have ever seen anyone use. I may, of course, have missed it, but it's one I knew nothing of other than it was made in Israel by Personna. Ugly wrapper, plain stainless blade with no printing on the blade. Just blah. At the Slim 2 it provided a nice DFS which was a bit of a surprise. On the Slim 6 I expected something like the Personna Red, maybe Crystal level. What I got was......two passes.........BBS. Now, upon further review at the end of the pass I did find two small touch ups needed. But NOT a third pass. I call that a two pass BBS and that is the first time it's happened with the Israeli blades. This begs a huge question.......the one that has been in the background through all of these blades. Are they the same basic grind/blank etc, just coated differently for different brands? We know that the Personna Platinums and their generic counterparts are clearly the same thing (yeah, I know, based on observation and trial not by Personna). And, I suspect Crystal/Qball are also identical except for wrapper. Highly suspect that. Like twins including the markings. There have been a few oddballs as we've gone, but none of them have failed. Not even close. But for this blah blade to deliver a two pass BBS on the 6 setting.....completely amazed and filled with even more questions. I'm not sure I'll find answers but that's ok. I'll finish up with it tomorrow on 9 to see if that result holds or if it goes off one direction or the other. And then I'll wrap up the Israeli portion of the Grand Blade Trial with a summary and further discussion. Yes, I have emailed Personna again to try and get any info. Until then I can say that using any of the Israeli blades is better than a lot of other options as far as performance. One more day for the Tomy to prove me wrong. Today's Russian themed costume is really quite appropriate given the whole Pokemon craze of recent times. Just be careful if you're playing Pokemon Go in the Motherland. They add a level of difficulty to the game over there.
Well, @wristwatchb has made a suggestion that I think most will like. Seems like he's a music fan and found a theme song for the 30 Day crew. We of course, have the "fight song" in honor of the Cartel. But, we don't have a theme song that may define us all as a group. Here's his suggestion. By George, I think he's onto something here!
By the way, you now need your official membership logo.........welcome to the Brotherhood of the Pain Stick!
That, along with the combination of the witness protection program and the statute of limitations. kArt3L4Lif3
Nice work! It may just take a little and practices with the stropping. It's important to keep the mid-stroke pressure more to the spine side of the blade to prevent rolling the bevel. Once you get it down though, good steel can go months in between honing. This seems to be going very well!
8 OCtober 2016 Plan for 9 October too... Fatip Grande Two pass Automatic BBS Machine Have a great Sunday!
I like that And by the way - the Tuxedo IS a terrific latherer. I only used the brush once so far, I'll have to evaluate it a little more ... but I am thinking about buying a second knot, just in case
A belated Happy Birthday to @NCoxSTL , my excuse is I was traveling the globe. The Korean contingent has dispatched some soju along with our best delivery person, Min. Hopefully the full understood my delivery instructions and didn't send the soju back with Ivan(we found him here on vacation. He was going to Vladivostok but got on the wrong plane) If by some chance they got it right please send Min back.
When I have time and want to 'go for it' I will apply some Nivea cold cream before my shower and the Proraso pre shave when I get out of the shower.... since I go for it almost everyday I do this prep for most shaves.
