Love me some watches. This is what I'm rockin now. Nixon quattro. Not cheap (to me anyway) but not expensive. definitely the most expensive watch I've ever owned because I can't bring myself to spend over 150 on a watch, or else I don't think I'd wear it.

And I use the Apple watch for productivity and non outdoor activities (home workouts). It's probably most generally useful, but it not always the practical device I need.

It's funny how we were able to think through all the scientific breakthroughs to land on the moon but we did not think an automatic (self winding) movement would work in space due to the lack of gravity and therefore Rolex subs were not even in the running for space travel. (or so the story is told and I have read numerous times at least)

I used to do that for a living but that was a long time ago. Bought and sold plenty of red Subs but never kept one for myself. If you have a bond submariner do not restore it leave it as is. Do not I repeat do not send any vintage Rolexes to the factory, they will absolutely ruin them with new parts!

Check out watchmakers Bob Ridley and Rikki Dietel. I've used the services of both of these gentlemen, and they are fantastic! Bob specializes in sympathetic restorations of vintage Rolex watches. Rikki has a Rolex parts account, and he would be my first choice for service on a modern Rolex. You can find many reviews of their work on-line.

I have a collection of Bulova Accutron watches from the 60s & 70s. This is a Space View. All are driven by tuning fork for accuracy. This technology has a history with the space program. If you hold your ear to a running watch, you can hear the tuning fork. I like them for their complex simplicity.
