My best shave to date tonight. I was able to clean my neck up to a CCS. VERY happy with the results.

My razor was nice and smooth again tonight. I am working on no pressure while stropping.

How did you motivate the razor ear to Adam's apple?

I followed @Keithmax suggestion. I opened my mouth up then pulled my skin up from my cheek. Then did my normal XTG where the top of my jaw is. This time a lot of neck skin pulled up to there and allowed me to shave it. This also allowed me to turn my head away from the razor. This gave me a bit more room to get lower on my neck. Lots of practice will be needed to get this down.

Thats my problem area as well, and I'm only using one hand. I guess I open my mouth and look up and away (sometimes down) to flatten that area of my neck.

I've only just begun honing my own razors but think I'm learning pretty quick. Honed this one up yesterday and did pretty good today. It could probably use a little more touchup but atleast I'm able to get passable shaves with very little trouble.

Shave 32. Tried out the Wade and Butcher again today. Nice shave, particularly the first pass reduction. Maybe not quite as close overall at the end as the John Clarke & Son but close. The alum was a little bit noisier though. Still coming together by degrees. :happy088:

my first USSR sr. hard steel and very hone resistant, but succeeded at last.got a very smooth edge.lovely shaver.
honed on 1,5-5-8 and 12k. finished on a black ark.
planned to use Russian vodka for after shave, but since i did not have any i went for pinaud club man instead. got addicted to the scent:)

How long did it take to finish honing this little Ruskie?

It took well over 1 hour with som violence on the bevel setter.after that not much longer than other razors.but since the black ark is a slow cutter i did twice the time on that.

I had som trouble with part of the edge that did not touching the hone, so had to remove som steel from the bevel.thats why the violence:) i think it`s ok to use som force to correct faults on the blade, but not when honing for the sharp edge. so when the bevel was corrected the touch was much lighter:)

Tonights shave was part 2 of the Shumate Tungsten razors. This razor now performs flawlessly. Its sharper than I thought possible. I had a very nice two pass shave, with very little touchups. No nicks, cuts, or weepers. SAS.

Razor- Vintage "Shumate" Tungsten Steel (with nice grey tungsten patina)
    Soap- Stirling Barbershop
    Brush- Zenith Boar
    Aftershave- Vintage Avon Deep Woods.

After having a bit of an issue with the toe dragging while honing. I received some sound advice and proceeded to correct the issue. Tonights shave was a CCS + shave. I am experimenting with different ways to get my neck. This is the one area that I see will be the biggest learning curve.

The blade was nice and smooth. I find if I drop the angle just a bit I will get the tugging. This happens when I am shaving blind. When I can see the blade in the mirror all is well. Need more shaves to get that muscle memory going.

I did get the mystery weeper. You know the one that decides to leak all over your clean shirt 15 minutes after you are done

    Have a great weekend

This morning I used another new to me razor. It's a George Wostenholm "Peerless" razor. It's in good shape and the etching on the blade is nice and clear. I'm guessing that it's early 1900's. Maybe some of you guys could help me narrow down the year. @HolyRollah , I think you're the resident expert on Wostenholm razors.

Anyway, I honed this razor up last night and got a DFS in two passes this morning. It's a nice razor!

    Today I used;
Tuchmar Bartputzer model 1930 6/8 extra full hollow round end. 20161015_112117_resized.jpg while researching, someone wrote that the blade was ground on the horizontal plane, allowibg the end product to be shaped like a frameback. I'm not sure of the reliability of the information.
But I can now say the razor is exceptionally easy to use. I'd highly recommend it.

I always assumed the 'Peerless' branding on this Wosty and other straight razors was due to the US importer — such as Peerless Brush Co, VT, USA (1948-1960) —which would make these razor all stem from the mid-20th century. However, the term 'Peerless' has been used by various companies indicating quality, particularly popular in the early 20th century ("Peerless Cutlery Co., NY 1920-12921). Could these razors been imported by Peerless Cutlery? Not likely, either as that company had their own stamped brand. I'll just assume the 'peerless' stamp on the Wosties was another way of branding a different model line, and I'd probably still date them to the early 20th century (1920-1940s). ebay is regularly flooded with them.
