OC versus closed has no effect on aggressiveness. OC leaves more soap behind, and better accommodates longer growth. It does not increase gap or exposure, and it doesn't change geometry.

Grand Blade Trials - Pause for OCtober

    Razor - Fatip Piccolo
    Blade - voskhod-teflon-coated.jpg (2)
    Soap - Proraso Red Tub
Brush - Wolf Whiskers Custom Silvertip
    Post - Witch Hazel

Time for a pause in the Trial again to join in OCtober! Wanted to use the Fatip for the second time. The first try with it was awesome and I want to confirm that and get some Russian steel against my face before I have withdrawals! Also want to try the Proraso Red, as I have only ever used the Green. I also have the White to try so that will be coming up.

My first impression of the soap is that it has a mild sandalwood scent, which is what is is supposed to be. I was perhaps a bit disappointed it wasn't a stronger scent but that's ok. The only other sandalwood I've used was the St. Charles Shave Sandalwood with Lanolin and it had a very nice and robust scent. Unfortunately, the lather wasn't. (I probably need to revisit) I loaded the Proraso onto the Wolf and got a great lather out of it. But I also got a funny smell going as well. I'll worry about that after the shave.

The Fatip is one mean razor. And I love it even more the second use. The Voskhod just sings in this razor. Literally. It's loud, it's effective, it's in your face aggressive and that's while riding the cap. Add a little angle and you get the wilder side. Three passes and the baby showed up begging to be acknowledged so I wouldn't try any more. Fantastic finish but boy I can tell the alum would tear me a new one. So, we'll just go witch hazel for the night and call it good. Even now, about 15 minutes later, I can feel a light burn on my neck and face. This razor gets it done and tests your manhood at the same time. Love it even more.

With this much irritation, though, I'm thinking a less sharp blade might be a bit better so I'm debating on blade choice for the next time I use it. I'm planning on something else tomorrow then back to blade trials Tuesday so it may be next week before I give the Fatip another run.

Hope you had a great Sunday! Mine was different. The Allstar BBQ for the top performing sales reps at work over the summer was today and I was the top dog. We went to Escape a Room and had a lot of fun with that then off to eat some fantastic BBQ in downtown STL. All in all an enjoyable day followed by a great shave.

Oh, I forgot about breakfast......Ivan had it ready when I woke up. He can be so considerate at times.

I typically see feathers go from $30 to $50 per hundred. And while they are nice blades there are blades that can be had for $10 per hundred that cut my whiskers just as nicely. Blade of course are the biggest YYMV item, but for me the feather just aren't as good value. I have a vast stockpile of blades, if you would like to try a few other brands shoot me pm. It only takes one first class stamp to send a half dozen blades taped to an index card in the mail.

Final test for the DR Harris cream, into a very hot scuttle. I did not expect this cream to hold up under the heat but it surprised me. It performed better than under normal or no heat. Since I didn't have confidence it would hold up under the heat I went with a DE, Futur, for today's shave. Actually I was also pressed for time.

In the beginning as with most soaps it looked bubly at first in the very hot scuttle but when it hit my face it turn to a very warm creamy lather. Four quick passes with the Futur and I am BBS with no irritation.

Thanks. I might take you up on the offer. I'm always searching. New at DEs. I probably will have a stockpile shortly but getting my BILs into wet shaving as well.

Back to the straight that bit me yesterday.
I had a nice 3 pass shave with no blood.

I am experimenting with my neck area. It cleaned up pretty good. I can feel stubble in my neck creases. But all in all a nice smooth shave.

Better late than never. This morning's shave was fantastic. I touched up this razor on my new Naniwa 12K yesterday and it's a completely different shave.

Being on the West Coast Bunny Pass Around was an experience. Shaving with a B-V3.1 any time is a blessing. Don't tell my Fatboy, but I prefer her to him. I still have have a Rubberset 400 that will get a board knot, but it may take a while to break in because I'm not in a hurry to set down the Tuxedo knot. (¡Get one!) Lathering like a king in a Suribachi bowl, settled into the NOTSO open comb, three passes for my new standard of what a shave should be. I'm thinking about a slight modification; altering the grip on the Bunny. Maybe adding a plastic dip coat to the slim handle. Being a lather everywhere style shaver I don't want to drop her. Alum gave a smooth light heat, cooled easily by Osage Rub. It clashes a bit with the Aqua Velva so next Menthol Monday I won't layer them.

Grand Blade Trials - Pause for OCtober

    Razor - Feather SS
    Blade - artist-club-small-professional-blades.jpg (1)
    Soap - Mitchell's Wool Fat
    Brush - Semogue 620
    Post - Witch Hazel

I decided after @Marverel had put in such great work with the AC razor I'd join in for a day. Haven't used a pain stick in awhile so I'm overdue. Spent the day mulling over which to use, the Greager or Feather SS and finally settled on the Feather with a Feather Pro blade.

The 620 and Fat were amazing together as always. I can whip up a brush load and lather start in about 45 seconds with this brush off of the Fat puck. Took a couple of extra seconds to remind myself of grips, angles, set downs and all of that good stuff, lathered it up and took off on the first pass. Ahhhh nice. Love that feel when the angle is right from the start. Apparently it's a bit like riding a bike....once you've done it and all that. Spent some extra time working around the goatee line which usually results in blood. Hey, @Heisenberg 93 I'm trying to make your day here. However, none appeared and I rinsed for the second pass.

Nice lather still and I worked at a bit of an angle but nut necessarily XTG. Something I've done before with the AC razors. Did some touch up work at the end and had a very nice DFS so called it good. Two passes with no blood and the alum.....well it's always a bit hot after the pain stick so it just made it all perfect like that.

I've missed this razor and the Greager which hasn't really had a lot of time to prove itself. It's really nearly identical to the original CJB but I feel like I need to pay more attention to it. I'm sure I'll get to it.

Tomorrow the Trials resume with the Gillette Silver Blue. Looking forward to three fine shaves in a row and don't think the changing blade gap can stop that. Hope you all had a great Monday!

It's nice to see that I have such a positive influence  In return I will use my 620 and the MWF soap for today's shave - I have neglected those two for far too long.
