Yes, that right, but one more point - this difference between razors from two largest manufacturers in Soviet Russia, even made in same times. I'm talking about STIZ factory in Moscow and Trud (ZTV) in Vacha , as I know, in period after WWII till middle of 1960's blades from the first factory are softer than from the second one.

There are some examples of one popular model from ZTV "Gravjura" (Engraving in Russian), they started production of this model in middle of 1950's and made it about 10 years. They made lot of different images on their blades, some of that dedicated to important events in Soviet history, other shown famous places of Russia etc.

I finally got around to Honing the Pinko Russian Beauty, "EKSTRA".ZTV 1953. It did not have an edge on it, and the edge wasn't exactly straight, as with the 70's Russian razor I did before. This required two sessions with the stones, and took a little while, but only half the time of the other razor. Pinko was made in 1953, and it appears the steel was much softer then, than in the 70's. I would put it a little harder than Swedish Steel, and much harder than anything I have from Solingen and Sheffield. There was a slight warping in the toe end, which could only be seen when honing. It needed a little extra muscle throughout the entire honing process. In the end, it came out with a killer edge, just not as killer as the 70's era Russian. Don't get me wrong, this is a fantastic razor, and the quality of the steel is better than most blades I've honed, I just like the 70's better. The Pinko is a prettier razor though.
So, in conclusion, If I were to choose between a 1950's era Russian Razor, and a !970's Era Russian Razor, I would choose the 1970's. Only because the steel is better, in my opinion. But, I would only want to hone the 70's once. It takes so dang long.

No doubt. They both are fine shaving razors, but the 70's era is like trying to shape a diamond with sandpaper.

Greetings, Comrades. I am most pleased to report speaking like a Comrade is one thing but shaving like one is even better. It is an experience that would make Bourgeoisie scum weep. Da, is amazing shave. :D

Having gotten my six newly honed razors back from Glen @gssixgun today I quickly found the Paketa to shave with first. All I can say is, Wow. I thought I knew sharp but this is crazy. Sharp and forgiving. Shaving was like dream the Motherland dreams for us all, Comrades. Da, is true. :)

Seriously, if you are on the fence on getting one of these, now is the time to pull the trigger. I am getting another and will be sending it directly to Glen for honing. If you want to bundle an order and do the same just PM me. There will be some good savings from reduced shipping overseas and locally. I've already given a heads up to Mykola (who is posting some new beauties on the bay) and to Glen to be sure he is good with getting the razors sent direct to him. :happy036:

Honestly, the steel felt the same as many Solingens, on the Choseras which is why I went with the Blue-Green Escher for the finisher..

I think you can see the gentle smile in the edge better here, which is one of my favorite profiles, makes for a comfortable shave under my jawline for me
