Love that razor. Is there much difference in the way it shaves from an E?

The Type D in My Experience is Not Comparable to any Other Schick Injector..It Has Special Characteristics of its Own..The Same Can be Said Regarding the Type F..:angelic007:

That is a beautiful razor! One of the few I still have on my unobtainium list!

Yes, quite different. It is unique in how it feels in hand and balances, being a singular material throughout.
If you're a Schick lover, you gotta own a D.

Thanks, guys. Both a D and an F are two that are very high on my list. There is an F on the Bay right now, but I can't buy any more razors this month. Or the next few months...

Considering the amount of money I have spent on ATT, Wolfman, and Ikon to find out I didn't enjoy any of them that much, going rate on a D or F doesn't seem too bad when you figure in that I haven't tried an SE yet that wasn't enjoyable to shave with.

You should also look at the Type O. In my humble opinion its the best injector Schick ever made.

That's another one a guy should have just for the cool factor if nothing else. I will pick one up if I find one, but they don't seem as readily available. I pretty much have all of the common ones, and am just sort of lurking for oddballs now. I guess my main shopping list consists of:

    -D Type
    -F Type
    -O Type
    -PAL Injectomatic
    -H Type

I haven't been at the SE game very long, so I have lots of time.

You should acquire them all in alphabetical order (A through O) just for the challenge :D

Look for a Hydro-Magic as they loosen up to clean inside the head and will still keep the blade in place without removing it. It shaves like a Type I, which it resembles, and a Type G, in my opinion.

    The El Jefe is here.

I haven't shaved with it yet, but some first impressions:

It looks typical of the Shavecraft line, blasted aluminum. It has a moderate weight to it, sorry I didn't weigh it. It is nice looking, and a little rounded on the cap.

So far that's the only good I can say about it. The thread post is so long, that I tried four different handles, and the only one that would fit is the Maggard in the picture. (The only Ikon handle I have is at my son's, while he tries out some different ones.) A couple would come close to tightening up, but I didn't dare put any torque on the aluminum threads. Shavecraft's have enough of a reputation for easily damaged threads, that I can't believe this was overlooked.

The tabs that the blade sits on allow a ton of play between the top and bottom head. It isn't hard to do, but you will need to square it up when you tighten the handle. You can tighten it down with the blade mis-aligned a little. Probably not enough to be cutting yourself, but enough to have an uncomfortable shave.

Now the bad part: You need to make sure that when you slide the head tight up against the tabs on the cap and tighten down, that you slide them TO THE BACK. Try to have the two pieces as flush on the back as possible. When I put it together the first time, I wasn't paying much attention, and slid the plate to the front. See the picture above that shows the blade? Does it look like a lot of space between the blade and the plates? If you don't slide the plate to the back of the cap, the handle will tighten the two pieces together, but not clamp down on the blade at all. The blade is actually so loose in there it rattles. The alignment and exposure looked even, but I guess that was just dumb luck. I only noticed because I actually sort of shook it, feeling the heft. Now that could cut a guy. I'm sure it is fine if you pay attention and get it right, but make sure you get it right.

I cannot form a final opinion yet, but solely based on the tolerances this razor is built to, I would have passed. I know it is only a $40 razor, but I am seriously kind of surprised Ikon would put there name on something this bad.

I chose the I2 Hydromagic this morning, it's a wonderful razor. Indeed I just bought a second one to see me through possible zombie apocalypse. Perhaps it's just the handle but I prefer it to my G series.

Thanks a really interesting first impression write-up.
I have mine out for delivery today - among with the iKon SE handle. Will be interesting to get it now to see if mine is the same as yours.

I am curious to hear too. Maybe I got a bad one. Thing is with Greg's pretty blanket disclaimer he published, I doubt he would return it. There is no way I would sell something like that. You can put it together correctly, but I hope to Hell it is a good shaver because it is just about the most fiddling around I have ever done to change a blade.
