If You Look Closely there are Two Prongs or Blade Stops that Hang Forward Down Either Side of the Top of the Head..That is the Blade Stops..The Blade is Static in its Own Stops & the Comb Moves Freely on the Horizontal Plain..That's it in a Nut Shell..:D

Do you know what the function of the thin bent metal piece in the area where the key slides in? Half of mine just broke off and fell out:(

That Bent Metal thing is Sprung to Hold the Blade in Place to Prevent it from Floating Around & To Hold it Tight Flat Against the Top of the Head When Injecting a Blade..That's All its For..Just be Extra Careful Loading a Blade & it Will be Fine..:happy088:

These Injectors are a Masterpiece of Engineering...Way Ahead of Any Design Today..No Reference to You..People Knacker them By Messing about with them..They are Complicated Designs & Most Folks Don't Understand the Intricacies of them..One Other thing..The Only Injector Key that Fits them Properly is a PAL Injector Key..;)

Looking at the piece itself and how thin it is makes me wonder how easy it would be to make a replacement...hmmmm......

As an end of Open Comb month Celebratory Shave....I Brought out an old Heavy Weight Whisker Killing Champion....

When GEM originally unleashed this ruthless whisker hating and ultra modern beast, back in 1930...
It was technically way ahead of its time. It looked like some kind of antennaed gizmo from the not to come for another 35 years, Jetsons primetime cartoon show.

This marvel, beat Gillette to the tto draw by several years. And not only does a turn of the tto knob open the top...when you turn it back, the top shuts and then robotically grabs the blade and smoothly moves forward til it locks the blade in the optimal whisker slicing angle!

How does it hold up to a more modern razor? Well actually, VERY nicely. In two passes plus a touch up it delivered an exceptional BBS...Pretty effortlessly! GEM bet the farm on this one, and I can see why. No guestion this Classic Micromatic gave one of this month's best shaves....

But we can still safetly say, that this 1930 technological marvel has nothing to fear from our newer razor technology....Extremely well built, I've seen one that had been run over by a car and still performed flawlessly...And a very close shaver indeed...GEM not only beat Gillette to the tto draw....But did so with more panache and closer shaves...than the later released Gillette tto competitor...The Open Comb Micro-matic is a thoroughbred...}8^D

Disclaimer: I've edited this review a tad....In the original version I made a quick unfair comparison to a certain Schick Repeater that I have bonded with....and can achieve consistantly amazing results with....Now after some time has passed...I'm kind of knocked out by tonight's performance by this Gem of a GEM !

Marvelous shave with the PAL Adjustable this morning. Excellent, beautifully scented and protective lather from the PAA 1K shave soap. Three passes for a dolphin smooth finish. Have a great day friends.

That is a great write up, and makes me want to try another MMOC. That is one razor that just didn't seem to agree with my face. The Bullet Tip version is definitely a keeper for me, so I may just keep a look out for a lonely OC version again.

Spot on assessment of the Micromatic OC Bird! It is a remarkable shaver and has an edge over Gillette, imho, in the solidness of it build quality while keeping modern features like the marvelous tto. I have been consistently surprised by the quality of shaves that the MMOC gives. As far as all the talk of how aggressive it is, I really don't see it. This one is a smooth shaver as any in my experience:happy088:

From the shaving perspective, what are the differences between a MMOC and a Clog Pruf? For most cases I don't find a significant difference between oc and sb but you hardly see any sodt or conversations about the clog pruf.

Visually MMOC is simply more beautiful imo.

I'm planning to use the Schick type F for week or so to compare with the last week's type D shaving nirvana. It's gonna be tough to match but the "F" has always been pretty decent, especially when loaded with a Dutch blade.
