Are you thinking what I'm thinking you're thinking, and I'm thinking? I don't consider an AC a shavette either so yes, there's a razor style I (and you) haven't tried. We wouldn't both be fighting an AD would we?!
Once I got competent on SR, shavette was easy, just had to back off the pressure. 1. My life is a bit hectic, and I really enjoy the SR "zone shaving experience." Shavettes keep that focused skill experience intact, and deliver the same long-lasting shave as traditional straights, with all the ease and time economy of DE shaving. 2. Shavettes utilize my existing DE blade stash, which means a consistent edge, and takes my human stropping inaccuracy out if the equation. 3. Shavettes preserve the grip memory and stroke pattern as regular straights, making a return to real SR very easy. Sally Beauty carries the Magic that I use, and I believe it's about $11.
Of all the half DE shavettes I have tried I like this late system the best. The razor all has some weight to it.
I consider Feather AC razors as shavettes, really good ones. I do consider shavettes as straight razors, just extra dangerous ones. Don't want to get into semantics but the techniques are similar and the wet lather need similar. Most shavettes are just lighter and less forgiving than a 'true' straight.
Gillette Tech Weber Bulldog Gillette 7OC Indian Green Semogue BC Texugo Tet-a-Tet SC Alum While the tech is a mild razor, it can still bite. I was rushing the shave and gave myself a bleeder on the chin. Had to pull out the alum block between passes. The overall quality of the shave is improving and I was happy with the results today, despite the blood letting. I have one more shave from the tube of Tet-a-Tet SC before it is finished.
November 4, 2016 Wolfman WR-01 Ti OC with Triad Ti Personna 74 (6) “Los Tres Amigos Dos” CH 2 Synthetic LE Mystic Water Eucalyptus & Spearmint Witch Hazel Myrsol F/Extra Whipped Shea Butter Happy Friday everyone and what a great way to end the work week. The new Chubby 2 Synthetic is a wonderful brush and made face lathering the Mystic Water Eucalyptus & Spearmint soap a easy task. Sticking with my normal 3 pass routine I was very close to a BBS. I decided to chase and catch the baby. No nicks, irritation or weepers. Overall a fantastic shave and graded out to an "A+". I finished off with a splash of Myrsol F/Extra. I hope everyone has a great Friday.
November 4 SOTD: Stirling Synthetic Brush Stirling Gentleman Rolls Razor Stirling Unscented PSB Stirling Gentleman AS I took a little break from my focus today, as I plan on keeping this razor. This was a little warm up for Painful Tuesday, and there was a little pain involved today. I didn't have any blood, but the blade definitely needs more time on the hone. Lots of tugging, and I have some irritation. Luckily, I have the great Stirling Gentleman scent to console me. I hope everyone has a great day!
Day 9 - 4 Nov 2016 Today was the 9th day of my 30 day focus. Excellent smoothness. Pre Shave: Prorasso + KOS Oil Soap: La Toja Brush: Omega Boar Razor: EJ DE89 Blade: Wilkinson Sword Classic (New) Post Shave: UltraPure WitchHazel w added Lime Oil & Joop Lotion & Balm
Today was not a good shave so I have no feedback on angle. This is one of my recent hone jobs and it needs to go back to the hones. I had to do a finish pass with my Stahly. Mike's Natural Soap B-400 Brush by Tom Wade and Butcher Razor Thayers WH Pinaud Clubman Happy Friday!
NOvember Maintaining Focus Mystery soap and B-400 Fatip/Muhle/ Israeli blade Alum, The Veg, Cremo When I pulled all my soaps out of the cabinet this one was an unknown. Could be several Strop Shoppe S.E. tallow samples. It made a great lather with a generally barbershop scent. I've also lost count on the number of uses on a Family Dollar Generic DE blade. So with reckless abandon and attention to details I got my three passes plus clean up done. Today i nicked the other corner of my chin. Funny how I didn't know it had corners until the last three shaves. Previously left side scabbed up & healed. Today's misadventure on the right. Otherwise paying attention to angles is rewarding me with closer, smoother finishes. Rinse and alum revealed a gentle warmth but no hot spots. The Veg found that chin nick, and a dab of Cremo Face Moisturizer to finish up. Good Shaves Y'all!
November 4, 2016- "No Expectations" Razor: G3 Aristocrat Adjustable (4) Blade: GSB (4) Brush: VdH Boar Soap: VdH Luxury Running late yesterday, so no shave. The Sim and GSB tackled the two-day's growth with no problems for a DFS.
Razor: Gillette Super Speed 1947 Birth Year (@Boojum1) Blade: Personna 74 (1) Brush: Los Tres Amigos Dos Simpson Chubby 2 Synthetic LE Soap: Route 66 Cavendish Aftershave: Old Spice Fresh Lime Thrilling shave today with some vintage products and an amazing brush. A close comfortable shave with 3 passes and a little more cleanup than usual. Haven't used a SS for sometime and it took a little to dial in, or I just didn't want to stop using this brush. Everyone enjoy your weekend.
Thank you Amigo. Like you said it's a great way to start a weekend with a new brush, and one that looks and works so well.
