Welcome! I'd call that a near-rule. By changing plates out you're changing a variable but it's all good! As for the blade - I'll be following closely. Let me know how it works, what you think - details matter as I'm working with Rockwell to gather data on the blade in real-world use.
I'll have to give that one a try. I tried someone's (Who was it?) combo of Osage Rub then Florida Water and found it works very well. On my own tried Aqua Velva Ice Blue and Osage - not so much.
Yesterday’s shave was a good one. I had been pretty torn up on my chin from my two pain stick shaves with the Dorco blade, so I am growing out a goatee again. I want to see if the grey has turned into super villain stripes yet. It hadn’t last year. Nice simple clean shave. No cuts, DFS plus. Good shave with The Shave Den soap. My next shave may not be until Thursday. We realized we had a pipe leak in the wall. These pictures are of the only bathroom in my house today. I have some pain, tile work, and grout work to do before I can get the toilet installed. That will probably take priority over getting any razors honed.
Razor:Timeless Stainless Steel OC .95 gap w/Timeless Barber Pole Handle Blade: Gillette Silver Blue (3) Brush: El Druida Red Heart Chakte Kok/African Blackwood 2 Band Soap: Route 66 Ghost Town Aftershave: Floid Blue An outstanding close comfortable shave. The razor, brush, soap, and aftershave impress more each time I use them.
Nice looking razor. I sometimes forget about that one as I think of adjustables only on the line of Fatboy or Slim. The Black Beauty though....one I may have to consider at some point.
Day with DR Harris soap. Yesterday was not see good so I opted for my Corbra Classic instead of a straight. I was still a little pissed at the soap so I punished it with a boar brush. I didn't go for the wet runny lather but creamy lather and that was the ticket. Maybe this soap is just better for safety razors? 4 passes and an epic shave. No pics and I'm off to the airport, next stop Hong Kong and time to make some money to pay some bills.
Thanks Neil, I don't have another adjustable to compare it to but 6 seems to be the sweet spot for me. Sent from my Galaxy S6 using Tapatalk
You did all of that work with a straight razor?! Impressive! Looks like too much fun around there for me.
NOVember!! November 15 Grand Blade Trial - NOVember shave Razor - Feather SS AC - Pain Stick time Blade - (1 and, as it turns out, only) ((oh, by the way, thankfully this was NOT the Feather Super Pro)) Soap - Mitchell's Wool Fat - my slickest soap by far and........not exactly the right choice for this shave. Brush - Semogue 620, which whips up an amazing amount of that super slick Fat lather which, again, may not have been the right choice tonight. Post - Cold wash cloth, pressure, then some paper towels from SWMBO to dry the area and soak up some blood, then more pressure. Ominous enough for you yet? Well, it's been very quiet around here lately so I'll blame some of this on that. Nobody has been having anything close to MAYhem as we all just go our merry ways perfecting technique or learning new technique or just enjoying some fine, fine shaves. Seems like the "danger days" are behind us. I forgot. Ivan is about somewhere. I chose the Feather SS tonight in honor of some of you who have grabbed the pain stick this week. And, in a nod to @Drygulch I chose the Dorco blade instead of one of the Feathers. Now, the Dorco is not the sharpest but I did get good results out of it last time I used it so I don't mind it. And, as it turns out, it was a wise choice. Lathered the Fat up with the Semogue 620 and I get mountains of lather. And it's slick. So slick I have trouble holding the porcelain soap dish when it gets on it. I wet my face, lathered up for the first pass, rinsed my hands, dried my hands, and went to work on the right side. The blade felt good. Smooth, not harsh at all, just takes a little extra work to get a perfect pass out of the Dorco. Right side went well. In fact, I'd call it a perfect pass on that side. Good reduction, no blood, no nicks, nothing. Rinsed the razor and, this is where Ivan showed up, reached up to dab a bit of lather off of my left ear just before putting the razor in that hand. I started to adjust position for the set down and felt the handle slip in my hand. No harm, no foul. My brain said......STOP AND DRY YOUR HAND STUPID!! My hand said......NO I'VE GOT THIS!! And, as it adjusted grip to try and get the slick soap out of the way all hell broke loose. Or at least that was the sensation I had. I felt the razor leave my hand and felt a thud on my chest then a little pain just below my breastbone, right over my gall bladder scar from a few years ago. Then, the razor clattered loudly in the sink as I exclaimed - "oh good golly would you look at that, how silly of me", or something to that effect. I instantly heard SWMBO holler from the next room and heard her coming on the run as I looked in the mirror and saw two cuts. One on my chest, about an inch long and the other where I felt the pain....only it was about 2 inches long. Both were perfect bloody lines with drops beginning to run out of them. Huh? What? Seriously? I checked my face but, of course, no damage there as I never set the razor down on the left side, instead losing it to gravity. I grabbed the wash cloth I had for the razor and applied pressure just as my wife arrived. I told her I was fine, showed her the damage and she disappeared then reappeared carrying paper towels. I put pressure on with a paper towel folded in fourths. While I wasn't bleeding profusely, it did soak through in a perfect line from the larger cut. I checked and nothing was gapping, or gaping, or doing anything else scary, so I realized they weren't deep cuts, just those skin cuts that like to bleed like they mean something. More cold cloth compressions and they were slowing down and stopping. I picked up the razor and could see damage to the blade where it apparently clanked onto the porcelain or the drain. Well, good thing I have my DE89 with a Rapira SS in it as backup. Finished the shave, nice near BBS, and took a picture to memorialize the event. I'll spare you the sight of my bare chest, though I know it's manly and rugged, especially with two bloody lines on it. Well, so much for things being boring! Of all the damage I've done with razors (and other assorted razor like things I've shaved with) I've never cut anything other than my face. Well, head of course on head shaves. And a finger or two but, you get the idea. And the best news.....according to SWMBO? My belly is big enough it covered the gap to the sink.....which bounced the razor clear of.......sensitive areas. Nice to know she has found a use for my being fat. I think I'll just sum it up and call it a day.
It was like a train wreck. I didn't want to look, but I couldn't help myself. Glad the organic parts will heal. Only hardware damage was the replaceable blade?
Yep. The razor itself is fine. Not even a scratch. Not sure how the CJB Greager would have handled it. Though with its square handle it might not have slipped. As grippy as the Feather is I'm surprised I lost it. That's what happens when you break a cardinal rule of shaving though.....especially with something like a pain stick......make sure hands and the grip are dry and not compromised!
