NOVember!! November 21 Grand Blade Trial Razor - 1962 (H1) Gillette Slim (9) Blade - (3) Soap - Arko Brush - BoS Omega 10066 Post - Witch Hazel Throughout the Grand Blade Trial my experience has been fairly consistent. If I get a really great shave on the mild 2 setting I'm getting my face hacked off by the time I hit 9. If I get a decent but average shave on 2 then there's a 50/50 chance of the face ripping 9 while the 6 will be nearly perfect. Well, the V12 gave me a decent shave on 2 and 6 would have been perfect except for the one nick. So, a bit curious and apprehensive going into this final shave on the blade. The BoS was magnificent tonight. Made lather like it was the Semogue 620. I think it's a bit jealous of my admiration for the rival. I had enough lather for three passes and squeezed enough out of the brush to go two more at least. And it was slick and really nice. Showed why Arko still remains one of the best for the buck in soaps. The first pass was instantly comforting as it was smooth and without any sense of harshness that sometimes shows up here. Second pass equally smooth and good and the third pass, even with an aggressive angle on the Slides, was also no problem smooth. The baby strolled in and said hello and I have to say I was quite impressed with this blade tonight. Throughout the three nights I've only been concerned when it nicked last night. Because of how smooth it's been and the good results I would like to give it a straight "A". However, I'll take off a bit for the nick and call it an "A-" . Still better than many I've tried. I'm still waiting to hear from the company to find out more but.....if you happen to get a chance and want to try a really good Indian Platinum, the V12 would be a top choice. Tomorrow through Friday - I'm going to go pain stick with the CJB Greager and Feather Pro. Just one week after the disaster with the Feather SS I'm getting back on the horse for four days. With proper safety precautions in place this time. (Have to keep SWMBO from nagging you know). Only two more days to Thanksgiving!
Day 4 and wrap up with Crowne and Crane Lavender and Cedar. Today also included an auction for travel razor. I like to use Feather blades when I travel because of the handy plastic case and the lack of wax on the blade. The Prismatic DE performed good on it's first trial so I loaded it with a Feather blade today to see if it will accompany on the next trip. I used the Rudy Vey-Shavemac DO1 to attack the puck and plenty of tallowy goodness was created. Things felt like they were going well so I thought I would go for the epic shave and took as an aggressive angle as possible. I thought I nailed it but the alum gave some feedback, all in all a very good shave. Irritation A- Closeness A The soap has performed well all phases of the test. For me it is better suited to my DE razors than straights but still is good enough for straights. If you are a tallow fan you will be happy with this soap. Next up is a 'veg' version from Crowne and Crane.
I am sorry to hear about your dad. Having lost my dad 10 years ago I understand how you feel. Condolences to you and your family for your loss.
Gillette Tech Bulldog Handle Ladas Super Stainless Semogue BC Texugo Soap Commander Love Alum Not a bad shave this morning, but nothing spectacular. It was my first shave with a 40's NDC tech and also the Ladas blade.
November 22, 2016 Wolfman WR-01 Ti OC with Hempel Ti Feather “Los Tres Amigos Dos” CH 2 Synthetic LE Route 66 Twisted Tweed Witch Hazel Floid Blue Another great smooth shave this morning. Three passes and minimal touch ups provided a nearly perfect shave with the exception of that one spot on my neck. I finished off the shave with a splash of Floid Blue. I hope everyone has a great Tuesday.
Brush Parker Best Badger Art of Shaving Lavender Shaving Cream Razor Rockwell s6 #4 plate Blade Feather (2) TSD Lavender Aftershave Splash with a good amount of TSD Lavender Cologne Lavender Tuesday. I guess I am in a floral mood. I got $10 off the AOS cream and it's been sitting for a few weeks so I decided to dive in. A dab of this cream takes less than a minute to whip into a yogurty smooth, thick lather. The scent is all lavender and subtle. I took a N/S pass, brushed on more lather and was asked to step away for a couple of minutes. I returned to take my second pass and the cream had dried on my face and was very thick. Instead of rinsing it off and starting over, I scraped away the thick goo. I did get a sold DFS, just had to rinse the razor more. Note to self... shave time is my time, I shouldn't let myself get distracted. In the mean time if every shave was the same, it would be boring. Happy Shaving.
Razor: Gillette President Y 1 Blade: Feather Platinum (3) Brush: Shavemac Zebra, Honeycomb 2 Band Badger Soap: Route 66 Frozen Margarita Aftershave: Myrsol Blue A very fine shave today.
Make that a nice vodka martini and I'm right there beside you. And surely any good Canadian domicile has enough roof support to handle a little late fall snow. I mean, what's the worst that could happen.......with 10 feet up there?
Next up in the soap trials is a veggie Crowne and Crane. It does smell wonderful and the test lathers went well so I decided to go with a straight razor on the first shave. I usually use a very wet lather when SR shave but when the lather was very wet it lost its glide and cushion so I kept it a little thicker than normal. That did not present a problem and the four passes preceded smoothly. The edge today was buttery smooth but still very sharp. No blood and zero irritation. I thought I nailed the BBS but just missed it. Irritation A+ Closeness A- Smoothness A+ Sharpness A
