Fresh off the truck from Bulgaria. My early 1900's Henckle Rapide Safety razor with 3 blades, one is chipped but I thought I was getting 2, blade tin with lithography intact, and metal lithographed tin slide case. Talked the guy down to $85. Expensive, yes it is the most expensive razor I own. But the cases and mintyness of the razor make up for it. I'll get pics of it tonight and put it up. It is a wedge so I gotta hone it up. I wonder if the Rolls hone and strop will work? I was so excited to see it, I almost cried.
DONT use the rolls. it wont work. the henckels rapide should be the 1915 model and if you cant get the wedge blades shave ready it will take single edge blades as well. nice score
Actually according to a German collector site it is a model from 1900. The wire guard there is used to keep the blade in place. The two little nubs on the top sides there are dial screws to adjust the edge exposure. It slides out and you can see that green case under the blue felt. That is for the two Henckle blades with holder. Any body wanna try to translate. My camera sucks sorry for the blur. It took one month and some poor communication from the USPS but it arrived in a crushed unsealed box with 3 pieces of newspaper crumpled in the bottom. The razor was at least in a zip lock baggy. Now to strop and hone. I have a strop, so I'll try that first. What do you guys think. I have not seen many of these out there at least not this complete.
Very nice looking! I can't read everything that's written on the sides, it's an advertising text stating it is ideal for travel and everyday use and is superior to other safety razors.
I think it mentions another German razor, but I cannot remember what it is. Thanks for the translation assistance. Anyone else seen one of these. I am just curious. Before I bought this I searched around and could not find anything close to this in this price range and this complete and intact.
you got an amazing deal on that. i didnt realize you won THAT set. you dont see it that often. btw..is it me or is the blade bar off track?
Yes it is slightly bent to the left (leave it alone). It does hold the blade in securely. I want to clean the case but I am very nervous as to how to go about it. Any thoughts?
well as long as it dosent affect the shave. if you use a single edge blade with it, it touches your face at certain angles. something you may want to consider
That right there is the impetus for a nickname. Great. I am gonna strop the blades this weekend, they still feel really good. Not sure though. Straight razor help would be appreciated as to how to do this.
