Razor: Gillette President Y 1 Blade: Feather Platinum (7) Brush: Elite Razor Los Tres Amigos Desert Ironwood Beehive w/Sunrise Synthetic Soap: Route Reef Point Soaps Tranquility Aftershave: Myrsol Aqua Balsamica Excellent 3 passes with a lite touch up for a darn near BBS.
Excellent setup Doug. I was thinking that Folsom & Co Shambala or Capri would go well with the Tranquility soap.
NOVember!! November 26 Grand Blade Trial Razor - 1962 (H1) Gillette Slim (2) Blade - (1) Soap - Arko Brush - BoS Omega 100667 Post - Alum, Nivea Original Grand Blade Trial baby! The Bolzano Superinox blade from Germany. I used this blade during German blade days and really liked it. So putting it through its paces shouldn't be a problem. I remember it as a fairly sharp blade so the mild 2 shouldn't bother it much. We'll see if my memory is faulty or if anything changes. Arko and the BoS for lather and off we go. First pass was what I expected. Smooth and effective in spite of the gap. Fairly noisy and I always like that. Second pass was more of the same though I didn't think the finish was quite what I expected. After the third ATG and Slides I had a nice DFS. The shave should last a day for me but it isn't as close to BBS as I was hoping. Still, the result is well above average with no blood, very smooth feel and overall a great finish. At 6 this should just get even better. Changed my routine one tiny bit. Post-shave included Nivea Original to condition my face. It's turned cool to cold and dried out here and on top of a few days of the pain stick my face is a bit rough and raw. Will stick with the Nivea to get it back in its usual perfect, handsome, and sexy state. Hope your weekend has been a great one! One more day of the Black Friday Sale and I'll be on my weekend ready to sleep! Three days with a German blade - Let's get ready to celebrate!!
November 27, 2016 Wolfman WR-01 Ti OC with Hempel Ti Feather CH2 Synthetic Jade LE “Tres Amigos Dos” Route 66 Rum Runner Witch Hazel The Rum Runner was very easy to whip into a rich slick protective lather. I paid attention to my trouble spots as I progressed through my normal 3 pass routine. I was rewarded with a near BBS result which is more than good enough for a relaxing morning. I hope everyone has a great Sunday.
Gillette Tech Bulldog Handle Polsilver Super Iridium Semogue BC Mistura Mystic Waters Sandalwood Rose Alum A very nice shave with the triangle slot US Tech after a few days off. I am glad that I did the 30 day focus as I have dialed in my TECHnique. I am also sure that I will need to be careful with my more aggressive razors for the first few shaves. I have been using a little more pressure with the tech and the muscle memory will take some time to undo.
Thank you Doug. I enjoyed the Alabama game even though they tried to give it away in the first half. Much better than the Georgia game where the Dogs messed up and gave it away at the end of the game.
November 27 SOTD: Stirling Synthetic Brush TSD Lanolin Egyptian Spice Gem Junior Bar Stirling Unscented PSB Clubman Vanilla AS It was a no shave day, as I had to get the car loaded up and family ready for our drive back home from my parents. I went with the Gem Junior Bar this morning, which honestly I was likely to keep no matter how it shaved, but the shave just confirmed it. I got a near BBS on to smooth, easy passes. Just a great shave. I don't have too many more shaves left of the TSD Egyptian Spice, but this has been a great soap. The Clubman Vanilla seems to match well with it, and it was a perfect wrap up this morning. I hope everyone has a great Sunday!
Here's the kit I used for the month. Only missing is a gold NDC tech that I gave back to my friend that lent it to me. English flat bottom & triangle slot usa are wearing a Weber Bulldog handle, and Feather portable has a BRW Improved handle. When the BC run of Semogue brushes were just out, I was able to pick up most of them on the used market. The mixed knot Mistura brush is by far my favorite. Sorry for the crappy photo quality.
Razor: Gillette Adjustable Fat Boy w/ case & blade pack Blade: Astra Superior Platinum (1) Brush: Elite Razor Los Tres Amigos Desert Ironwood Beehive w/Sunrise Synthetic Soap: Route Reef Point Soaps Tranquility Aftershave: Folsom & Co. Capri Excellent three passes with a slight clean up around my trouble spots. All the pieces of the shave worked out great. This shave is very near BBS. Which is great as I haven't used this razor for some time.
Doug, I've been enjoying your photos! The snow seems to get deeper by the day! Nice set up today. Stay warm.
November 27 Gillette New LC razor Astra SP blade (3) Kent BK8 brush Tabac shave stick Alum, Thayer's Lavender witch hazel, unrefined shea butter, and Fine L'Orange Noir aftershave I finished my November focus with a two-pass shave early this morning. It had been ~20 hours since my last shave. Overall, it was good, but I could feel more bite than usual from the alum. I could have stopped at one pass but decided to keep going. I plan to finish the month with the Pain Stick. Learnings: (1) Astra SP is a top-notch blade, and I can easily get four shaves per blade. Neal was right. Florida steel rocks. (2) A modified diagonal (turns out to be true ATG for me) pass on my lower neck gives me a marginally closer shave than I had been getting with two passes. (3) The New LC is still my favorite overall DE. I like the simple three-piece design, and it always delivers a great shave. I hope you all had a fantastic Thanksgiving weekend. Back to the coal mine tomorrow!
Since @mrchick is traveling, I'll declare the November group hug. If you look closely at the bottom center of the photograph, you'll see Neal passed out after the huge Black Friday sales weekend in the Lou.
