SoS: November 28, 2016 - December 4, 2016

No-I was hoping to get it started this week, but I prefer to use it during cold days. We have a few days of warm temperatures coming up. I'll say this though, it sure smells like serious stuff(both the soap and the A.S.). Serious, that is, in a nice way .

Today's shave was nice. Menthol Monday still kickin'. Great cool lather, three passes with the anonymous stowaway. Smooth and comfy, finished with iced ice blue.

It's been 35 shaves since I used this wedge for the first time. It's a beauty and I set it aside after my first shave with it as I was still very early into my use of straights. It took four passes to get a decent result then. I knew I needed more skill before I picked it up again. Evidently I still need a lot more skill.

I needed four passes again and I would say the result was mediocre at best. There is still visible stubble on my chin that I could not remove no matter how many times I went over it with different angles and approaches. I'd say the blade went over those areas at least 20 times. Overall I ended up with CCS with some DFS. Even after the second pass there was still visible stubble on my cheeks. It was like my stubble either laid down and the blade just ran right over it or it pulled like crazy.

Anyone who has mastered a wedge who can offer some ideas of what to try the next time I break this razor out, please let me know. It was pretty much painful the whole time no matter what angle or pressure I used. Good for humility, not so good for shaving pleasure.

I am cold. Smooth and cold. Not even Jeff can top this one, because I'm not sure these aren't the coldest products on the planet. I like to use Glacial Balms after a splash because they seem to prolong the face freeze.

Avery good 3 pass shave with this combination of tools. A very slight clean up and ended up with a very near BBS.

I know I'm new at this but my guess is that it's simply not sharp enough. If it were you wouldn't be having this problem. At this point get it re honed and try again later. Did you maybe strop it wrong? I've made that mistake more than once...

 

This is a first-rate shave Douglas! Albeit cold and wet...
