Just a few observations from a fella who got into this D. E. shaving thing many years ago. I thot a list of things I've learned over the years may help someone along the way. YMMV always. I had the misconceived notion that this "wet-shaving" scenerio would lead to more jingle in my Pocket!!!! What a mistake that was!! I've come to the point in my life where shaving is an enjoyable morningtime experience and the thot of skipping a shave is kinda depressing!! But, I've made it past the "gotta-haves" to the enjoyment of the "old-reliables". Perhaps others who have found the things that "just seem to work" for them can chime in here. I know it's been done before, but here's mine. 1) Hot water and Noxema prep. 2) Muhle 89 or 41 3) Derby blade 4) correct angle 5) Proraso Sensitive or TOB'S Avocado 5a) Penchetta Silvertip Badger 6) store brand witch hazel 7) Clubman, Old Spice or British Sterling. Pretty simple. It just works. The Fatboy, Slim, Old Style OC and all the other stuff don't seem to get no more luv. Oh well. Prolly time for a good cleaning out of the "stuff"!! Thanks for listening. Semper-fi Mike
I seem to be going a similar route. I routinely use a handful of SEs, injectors and SRs nowadays. I will on occasion break out a DE, but not so much anymore. I still enjoy the shave and work on the technique, but will only pick up a new razor if it's really special.
I'm close to you there. I will be receiving the Colonial General in black (on sale last Friday for $39.95) and hope to one day purchase a stainless steal (pun intended) OC. Other than those I'm happy with what I have. ... to be continued... Don
Well, you had me at three of the first four, but that last one was a severe detour into no-man's land.
Im there with everything but soap...I really dont have a lot of stuff and the only thing I have bought in the last few years is soaps...I have found what works best for me and dont have the need/curiosity to see what does.
I am on the other side of the spectrum. Started wet shaving a few months back, but was still using one of those multi-blades from a shave club. The club got bought out and discontinued my blade and handle. Enough was enough. I had to find an alternative. About a month ago is when I bought my first DE (Merkur 38DH Classic). Was hooked almost right away. Within a months time, I now have 5 razors, 5 brushes, a multitiude of soaps and a new found respect for Clubman...lol.
When you finish up your restraint, you should get yourself a sample of The Sheep. I live in MN, where the mosquitos can pick up and carry off small children. All we have to do is open up my tub of The Sheep, and mosquitos just fall dead from the sky.
I could trade my fat boy, super adjustable, ranger, aristocrat for a big pile of Gem and pal SE blades, and I would be happy and content. I guess I have broken the whole splurge and jump into buying DE razors once I have gotten THE true Razors of shaving happiness. Sure I would like to try both the short and long handle krona, but that is really a "sideline thought" of interest. Like, "will my date smack me if I flirt with the watraiss"
NEW SC or SA-109 Trumper Limes or TOBS Coconut Omega 6212 brush Voskhod or 7 o'clock Green Clubman VIBR AS And I'm good to go.
