Finally getting around to posting my SOTD today. Started the day knowing how much I had to get done today. End of the month means deadlines. Well, the day was busier than I planned, but not in a good way. Went in early and stayed late, but still not done. At least I had a great shave.

Be Smooth and shave it up, everyone!

Grand Blade Trial - End of the Month Diversion!

Razor - Swan Safety Razor on a Stick!
    Blade - [IMG] (1)
    Soap - Mitchell's Wool Fat
    Brush - BoS Omega 10066
    Post - Alum, Nivea Original

Next to the last shave of the month and let's have some fun. I have this Swan razor, which is really a safety razor head on a stick. For some reason this came to mind when I came up with that description: [IMG]

I used this razor once before when @Drygulch dared me, which is how I seem to end up with some of these items. In fairness, I've paid him back a couple of times. My experience was optimistic.....in fact I went and reread the shave summary and was surprised at the optimism, especially after using it again. To say that this is perhaps a bad idea is a bit of an understatement. Making the razor, I mean, not just shaving with it. The design is, well, wonky at best and I'm not sure who would find it useful or why. But, it is what it is.

@Bama Samurai , because he always looks after my best interest here at the Den, suggested I use the Tiger or Flying Eagle. Such guidance and concern is really touching. Alas, I couldn't see the point as this thing has enough trouble cutting with a Voskhod, what chance would it have with either of the two worst? So, I chose a Sputnik as a compromise. It's a nice Russian blade, but not in my top 5 so there.

Getting the cutting angle on this thing is nearly impossible. @John Ruschmeyer was wise when he said "ride the cap". However, that almost makes it unusable as the blade doesn't really curve in it, so if you get on the cap just a bit too much you miss the edge of the blade. Still, the right idea at least. I managed two passes with no cuts and seriously deficient beard removal. Felt like I'd done a full pass with the Tiger, actually, without the screaming pain and irritation.

Finished with a pass from my Aristocrat and a Ladas since I do have to work tomorrow and turned the barely CCS the Swan produced into a nice DFS. And that, my friends, is that.

The Swan is a nice novelty item and I still think with a bit of work you could learn to produce a decent enough shave. But at some point it just feels ridiculous to be trying. I think I'd rather have the Soyuz 1 and a Rubie in my hand.

Hey....I think I'll do that tomorrow to finish out NOVember. Haven't just had fun at my own expense in a long time so I'll even go it one better. Tomorrow's set up is as follows:

Razor - Soyuz 1 (The Soviet DE that is worthy of an exploding spacecraft)
Blade - Rubie (My least favorite Russian Steel - I barely consider it usable.
    Soap - Wait for it............wait for it...........Marvy
Brush - Yep, might as well double down Marvy
Post - With luck just some alum and aftershave. With this setup, perhaps a few other things.

Consider that an early gift for the season. Hope you all have a great night and remember.......when it comes to shaving........

Hello all, I thought I would do something different for my SOTD today, so I chose to shave with one of my Gillette 195 FatBoy razors today, with a Crystal Super Platinum blade. Here's today's photo-[IMG]

This is the first time in two years that I have used a FatBoy. It was one of those things where I had to put it away to revisit later. I'm glad I did. These are great razors.

    Hello TSD ;) Today's shave:

    - PannaCrema Namaste
    - Maggard 22mm
    - Personna Double II
    - Tüff sensitiv Rasierwasser

Fantastic shave with this approximately 40 years old little plastic razor. Very smooth and at the same time really efficient. Though you have to get used to the (almost non-existing) weight and the really long handle. BBS on my first try - impressive :happy088:

    Hallowednesday
Excellent shave today. I used my Merkur Futur brush for the first time in a while, and I enjoy it, but I like the Bronze Shadow. I'm going to compare this brush with my other badger, a Simpson Colonel, which I will use tomorrow.

    Soap: B-M Hallows
    Brush: Merkur Futur
    Razor: Merkur Futur 6

Excellent shave this morning with the Schick N1 injector. Wonderful, easy, slick, rich lather from the Arko Extra Performance shave cream. Three passes for a refreshing dolphin smooth finish. Enjoy your day friends. :)

Another very good shave to end the month. Another consistent near BBS shave this morning. After using the Wolfman OC with increased blade gap for the entire month, I must say it is an exceptionally smooth and efficient razor. With the exception of 2 days I have used a Simpson CH2 Synthetic for each of the shaves this month. While I do have other synthetics the CH2 Synthetic is by far my favorite synthetics and some of my favorites period. I hope everyone has a great Wednesday.
