Easy two passes. WTG and an An ATG/XTG. Resulting in a Dolphin Smooth shave, lucky me. No incidents or weepers at all. Wish all my shaves were this simple (for a simple man). Many wishes for similar outcome for all. God Bless.

Life has been busy and I haven't had time to post, but I'm finally getting back to it. One shave ago I decided to revisit the Gillette Rubie. I put it into my Merkur 34c and was really underwhelmed by its performance. It was tuggy at the start and really didn't leave me with a smooth finish. So last night I decided to see if it could at least be usable in the X3. Surprisingly I was able to get a decent shave out of the Rubie with the X3, there was no tugging and after 3 passes I was left with a DFS. Also as a side note last night was my first deviation from using La Toja and I was kinda surprised at how much slicker Arko is. IMO the price/performance ratio of Arko simply can't be beat. Yes there are many soaps out there that smell better and possibly perform better, but at less then $1 an Oz Arko is a fantastic product. Have a great day my friends!

Prep - Noxzema / Hot towel
    Pre shave - Proraso
    Razor – ‘The Rock’ (Rockwell 6S – #3)
    Blade – Permasharp
Brush - 'El Monstruo' (Romera Manchurian 30/50 Fan)
Soap – Through the Fire Fine Craft – Brokkr
Post - Witch Hazel, Trevarno Revitalising Face Oil

Ever noticed how a really good shave lifts your spirits? Well, ‘The Rock’/Permasharp combo delivered a wonderfully smooth BBS shave.. and I thought it was going to be a case of 'death by Brokkr', the way 'El Monstruo' whipped up an obscene amount of lather...Outstanding! Yeah, my spirits are lifted...;)

You can't love em all, and thus far I find little to recommend El Jefe. Two different handles, three different blades, lots of playing with alignment and I get a very close if not terribly smooth face shave and an awful head shave. Microchatter on the hard cranium that doesn't evidence itself on the beard? I dunno. I may give it one more shot before it goes BST but for me in a world of Hawks and Generals this has no reason to exist . I finished up with the Colonial.

    Pre: Hot shower
    Soap: Phoenix Shaving "Bay Rum"
    Brush: Semogue Portugal 620 Boar
    Razor: Supply Injector
    Post: HTGAM Bay Rum

What an EXCELLENT shave today. Short on sleep (end of the month), but this was just the wake up I needed. Enough burn to make me feel alive, but not like I want to die. Very smooth and glad the Injector worked well for me today. The aftershave was PIF'd to me from a friend (thanks, Scott Schmidt!).

Be Smooth and shave it up, everyone!

Nov 30: Just finished shaving. Its nice being retired now - I can get up have a bit of breakfast, a couple cups of coffee, watch the morning news and then go in and have a long, leisurely, hot shave at my own pace. In my previous life it was up slam bam shower, shave, dress, no breakfast, coffee to go, and out the door. Anyway to today's shave. New blade again (still have 8 more to test) - this time it is the BIC Chrome Platinum. My SOC boar brush is soaking, Merkur 34c and bowl standing by and Barrister & Mann Taiga soap ready to go. This is my only B&M soap but it produces some of the best lather I've seen. Its a misty northwest day here on the Olympic Peninsula. When I let the dogs out this morning I could smell the woods. I have hundreds of douglas firs, red cedars, hemlock, et cetera surrounding the house. So the Taiga was appropriate. I have two more B&M soaps (Sandalwood and Lavanda) on order, but with the holidays I don't expect the shipment any time soon.

Ok - on to the blade. It was a pretty good shave. The BIC is made in Greece and runs about $17 per 100. Not too sharp but a smooth and I would say soft, comfortable shave. Three passes with no irritation and little clean up. I would place these along side the Dorco ST 301 which I have tried and really liked. Still the Astra SP and Lord Platinum I rate as better. As of today my top blades are (starting in order with the best): Astra SP, Lord Platinum, Dorco ST 301, and the BIC Chrome Platinum. Tomorrow will be another adventure with another new blade.
