    Gem Gold Push Button Razor
    Personna Gem Blade
    Frank Shaving Badger Brush
    WSP Fougere Noir Soap
    Dickinson's Witch Hazel
    Barbasol Brisk After Shave

Went for the Push Button today, but used a blade that had two shaves on it from the G-Bar. I was pleasantly surprised as it ranks among my best shaves over all and my best SE shave to date. And I seriously doubt it can get any better. It was a wonderful three pass BBS shave that was both smooth and comfortable. Just an incredible shaving experience.

Smooth and clean today. The Progress is a great razor. Set at 2.5 it was good. The Lemon chill is a great menthol blast and wow my face was happy. This old brush makes a sweet lather, it's not shedding so I'm going to leave it be. A great shave and I wish the same for y'all!

I am doing DE shaves with my Gillette razors during DEcember. I have 24 of them.

I haven't used a boar brush in a long time, so I was very pleased with the performance of the Omega Pro 48 knot in my JR#61 handle. The Arko Shaving Stick face-lathered well with my Jayaruh #61 boar brush. Two passes and touch ups with the Gillette Single Ring with a Personna Super blade gave me a close, comfortable shave. I got a very close shave riding the cap with the Gillette Single Ring. After a cold water rinse and alum block, I finished off with T.N. Dickinson's WH and then Pinaud Clubman After Shave. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

    20161130_192911.jpg

Prep: Trader Joe's tea tree face wash
    Razor: Gillette Redtip
    Blade: Gillette Black (3rd shave)
    Brush: RazoRock plissoft
    Soap: Tallow & Steel Dark
Post: Local Gent Fields & Streams balm

Had a quick 2 pass shave this evening. Nice performance from the Dark, and the scent is unique and interesting how the coffee/cocoa mixes with the peppermint and a touch of ginger. Not a scent for a daily driver, but a nice change of pace. Got an irritation free shave with no complaints. Finishe'd off with Local Gent balm. hope everyone had a great shave!

Grand Blade Trial - End of the Month Diversion!

Razor - Soviet DE - The "Soyuz 1"
    Blade - [IMG] (1)
    Soap - Marvy
    Brush - Marvy
Post - Alum, Nivea Original, Regret

Well, just for all of you, a special month-ending shave as promised. I've been involved in the Grand Blade Trial for several months and haven't been spending any time on less, um, quality gear. So, I figured why not end NOVember with a classic "what was he thinking" setup before hitting Decadent December (which I think you'll like too).

The razor of the day - the Soyuz 1. That fantastic, wonderful, super engineered marvel of the Soviet Union that features multiple blade gaps. Oh it's not adjustable, it just has different gaps as you go down the edge of the razor. And, while not a Flying Eagle or Tiger, the Gillette Rubie is a fine example of how to produce a bad blade with a good name on it. This thing, which looks so much like a Rapira Platinum Lux, neither feels nor shaves like fine Russian Steel. Hate it. Again, not as much as some, but enough to call it hate. The soap? Gotta go with Marvy. It's been sealed in a tin since I last used it a few months ago and...that "scent" that it has? Still horrid. And the Marvy brush to complete the setup. At least mine still has enough bristles to be called a brush.

The lather from this brush and soap? Uh, well, I can't really call it that. It's a lather at the beginning that goes on badly from the overly stiff and nasty feeling brush, but it soon dissipates into nothingness anyway so no matter. And the shave with this dull, tuggy rough blade in a razor that can't find a gap or an angle that lasts a half stroke? Well let's say this. After three passes I did manage a DFS, but the alum is so freaking hot from the irritation that my face essentially exploded into a ball of flame before settling down to a crackling fire burn. Nivea helped, but I'm still feeling it.

The bad news for some is.......no blood. The good news for me is.......no blood.

So there you have it ladies and gentlemen, the month of NOVember is DONE for me. I spent a lot of time trialing some good blades, as it turned out, and getting better and better with the Slim. So good, in fact, that I think it's improving the shaves beyond what a questionable blade can ruin. I also got some straight time in and loved it and......I still hate stropping. I'll continue to work with that. Both the physical and mental parts to see if I can get past that little stumbling block.

Thanks to everyone on the SOTD thread! I love seeing the gear over here and appreciate your putting up with some of my hijinks. We're doing Decadent December over on the 30 Day Thread (some of us anyway) if you'd like to spend a little time and show off some of the high end gear I see here. Have a great day!
