    well, that's 1 of 2 for me....I'd like to think of myself as a manly man, but I don't have a R41.

I got a better shave than I thought this morning. I am 14 hours post shave, and still a DFS, with just a tiny bit of roughness on my chin and neck. I wanted to shave in the morning, but don't know if there will be enough whiskers.

Could you suggest me a good aggressive safety razor to try?

    Decadent December!!

    December 6

Razor - Master Barber Magic Shavette
    Blade - [IMG] (2)
    Soap - Proraso Red
    Brush - BoS Omega 10066
    Post - Alum, Nivea

Couldn't resist another round with the shavette this envening. I did my usual weekly head shave - with the usual gear (Merkur 23c/VdH Deluxe/VdH Boar) - then got out the Proraso Red and Omega 10066 to set up for another run with the Derby blade. Last night's was a really nice shave overall and I want to see if I can improve on it. The answer to that question - yes and no.

Overall the finish was a pretty nice DFS. If 1 is barely DFS and 10 is near BBS I would call it a 6.5 So, nice and smooth and felt really good again. The only problem was a cut near my right ear as I started to go XTG. I'm not sure exactly what happened but I think I put too much pressure on the blade just before starting the stroke. It almost felt like a jump but I think was just a dig instead. The cut was light, not much blood, just a thin red line to tell me I goofed. The thin DE blades unguarded do provide a certain challenge to make sure everything is aligned right and that the right amount of pressure (basically none) is applied.

Even with that I was very happy with the result. That's two down with no major issues. I'm thinking I'll do a third tomorrow night then either return to Decadent December Soviet Style or else maybe try a different blade. We'll see.

My weekend is over! Went by way too fast. Back to the mines tomorrow. Hope you had a great day!

Fatip is probably my new favorite. Or if you want a vintage then I'd say a Gillette New either short or long comb. You can get a Fatip Grande or Piccolo, with the difference being the size of the handle.

Editing for an additional comment - If you have an adjustable, try the Fatboy or Slim on 9. Both of those will give you an aggressive feel and effect too.

So I finally got to give the Schick G1 its maiden voyage on my beard. TOBS Sandalwood, RazoRock Plissoft Big Bruce brush, home brew aftershave mix.

Man, this thing is so smooth and easy to use. No cuts, no nicks. A little irritation because I got carried away and really didn't feel it happening. My neck is a nightmare of swirling growth patterns, and I have a couple of trouble spots I can't get completely ATG smooth no matter what. WTG or XTG yes, but dang it, I want it perfect. So I decided to chase the baby today. It laughed. It cooed. It played a little peek-a-boo with me. But in the end, it gave an evil chuckle, jumped in its Barbie Jeep, and left my butt in the dust. One day I'll learn to stop chasing babies. That said, I still got a darn close shave with a darn good razor. And probably as close to a true BBS shave as I have gotten thus far.

You've likely hit a perfect combo! The Merkur razor you are using is far too mild for Derby. Derby is not a bad blade, it's extremely smooth, but in mild razors it's relative lack of sharpness encourages to much pressure--and it sounds like you solved it today!

    @Linuxguile nailed it.

Schick G is the gateway drug to straight razors. You've been warned. ;)
