They aren't the prettiest pipes, but the falcons are excellent smokers.

Having some Ryback Gold in my MM Maple wood Ozark. This is the first shag cut I've tried, and it's ok; but not a favorite. I like the shag cut; but I think it would be better off with different tobaccos. A good latakia or perique blend maybe.

Picked up a tin of Dunhill Flake, and some cleaners...nothing too exciting.

    RyX DoH!

I haven't found what to me is "A good latakia" but perique does suit my tastes. A local shop sells it straight up, rather than as a condiment or blended.

I understand some folks find it peppery but that isn't my experience. Lots of fruity plum flavor when I enjoy it all by it's self. I've found it's quite fulfilling in a 1 to 4 blend with Carter Hall for my daily.

Latakia is not my thing either. The ratio you're blending is totally normal at 20%, but is on the high side. I've been messing with Granger (burley) and Marble Kake (blended grades of VA), as they're both cross cut and of similar density. Ive wondered how straight aged burley would handle Perique. Perique is like Bourbon, an American classic, and a regional treasure...very cool that you smoke your region's stuff.

That's an interesting idea! I've recently acquired a couple Burleys. Both Wessx Burley Slice & Solani Aged Burley Flake have a pleasant nuttiness that would do well with Perique's sweet vinegary plum notes.

I should clear my palate with a shot of Bourbon & investigate further. ;)

Sounds most reasonable! Have a shot for me, too. It's now -2f.

Does it come ready rubbed in ribbon cut? Do you know which Perique it is?

I like most latakia blends. Latakia is one of my favorite tobaccos. I love the smokiness in taste and room note. There's also a difference between weather you're smoking Cyprian Latakia (which is most common and used by most tobacco companies for most blends); and much rarer Syrian Latakia. MacBaren Vintage Syrian is one of my favorites. Syrian tends to be somewhat "lighter" than Cyprian. On that note; I'm enjoying some Comoys Cask #1 in my MM maple Ozark. Good late night smoke.

So, looking for some input if it's available. Been looking at Samuel Gawith blends that are ribbon cut or ready rubbed rather than flake; like: Squadron Leader, Common Wealth, Perfection, Skiff Mixture, Grousemoore, Cabbies Mixture and Black Forest. Anyone have any experience with any of those and willing to pass along opinions? Thanks. =)
