I've had that same feeling with the Slim and certain blades (Rapira Super Stainless comes to mind) where it just feels like there is no blade but the whiskers are magically disappearing.
Not what I meant, serious suggestion. Aggressive with proper angle and pressure is the gentle way. I know this sounds counter intuitive.
Thank you, Mark. My wife runs a giving tree charity that all the local churches participate in, so she will be busy all weekend long packing up donated gifts for that with my older kids. I will get to watch our baby. I won't see too much of my wife unfortunately, but a bad weekend at home beats a good day at work!
It is really changing my opinion on the Slim. I guess it is evidence that as a newbie, I should have waited until I had my technique dialed in before I started experimenting with different razors. I would have made much more informed decisions about what to keep and what to get rid of and potentially saved a little money.
Sounds like a great razor for the BST. Seriously though, I will put it on the list. It falls somewhere right in between do it yourself tooth extractions, and volunteer ebola trials. There comes a point where you can't get any smoother. My focus is to find the most comfortable way to do it. If I want a challenge, that's what shavettes are for. You guys actually have got me stoked up for shaving with a shavette again. I PIFed away a couple, and sold my Artist Club, but today I just ordered an Irving Barber. I have been lusting after one for a long time, and I just sold a razor, so of course I had to buy one..... This will be my January focus. Longer if need be, but I doubt it. I could get good shaves with my AC, once apon a time.
Razor: Gillette Red Tip A-4 1955 Blade: Pol Silver Super Iridium (1) Brush: WDC-8 w/ TGN Finest Soap: First Canadian Shave Soap Co. Bay Rum/Lime (Sample) Aftershave: Captain's Choice Bay Rum Luckily ended up with a very close shave tonight after not getting a great lather. I don't think I added enough soap to the bowl and didn't realize it until I was almost finished. User error. I was however very happy with the blade and of course my Red Tip. Finished off with Captain's Choice Bay Rum.
Keep building that skill set, and save a couple popsicle sticks! I hit a brick wall when it came to straights - honing. So I dropped back and punted; shavettes. By the time MayHem swings around I'll be ready
I chased the baby today, and I caught the little bugger. I did a N/S pass, an XTG in each direction, and a S/N pass, and another Diagonal pass on the neck. The razor was very smooth, and the alum was pretty quiet. I think I understand why @Keithmax does so many passes. I would not try this unless I had a great edge and a good razor.
Thanks. I like this aftershave a lot. I wasn't chosen by the Veg, but this version was formulated without the animal urine scent I get from Veg. Long lasting scent I smell all day, and a pretty good skin feel. Masters also makes one call Topez I want to try. It's about $8 plus shipping for 16 oz. good stuff.
