I'm home and here are some pics. I wasn't too familiar with the name, but it looks like a nice blade and the price was right. It's a Böntgen & Sabin. I'm going to try and hone this one this week after I clean it up.

What kind of a price is fair for a good old double edge razor?

It depends on the make and model. If we are talking about one of the more common ones like a Gillette SuperSpeed or Tech or a Schick Krona you should be able to get one for < $15

May also depend on the seller and your market. I live in a small southern town where Mayberry-ish attitudes still prevail. Crusty Gillettes go for less that $10 if the seller hasn't checked the bay for current values.
Do you have a particular razor in mind?

Mail call... Four 24mm silvertips and one 24mm synthetic from TGN. Time to think about my next set of handles to turn.

The Option Five was delivered today. So it will be up for tomorrow morning's shave. This razor is new to market so there really have not been many reviews at all. I am looking forward to giving this one a go.

'40 Milord? That's what it was listed as, anyway.

The head looks to have been taken down to the brass, and there's no trace of gold plate on the handle.

Nice case! It's pretty easy to shine up and make the plastic clear again.

How? I tried dawn soap and a toothbrush and it is still pretty scuffed looking.

@Darkbulb found the razor and negotiated a discount. I couldn't help myself and gave in. First impressions are good so I am looking forward to giving it try.

Great you got it - now I just wish mine would arrive as well :)
The discount code, btw, that gives 10% off and free international shipment is valid, I think, until Dec 24th.
And yes, I paid for my razor and no, I don't get any kick-backs or commission from sale - I just liked the way it looked.

Thank you for clarifying my post. I didn't intend to imply you profited from the razor in any way. My post was intended as a thank you for securing the discount.

Sneaky Secret Santa (Charlie @wristwatchb) slipped a puck in my stocking. Thank you, kind Sir! Tomorrow's lather will be my first with a lanolin soap, and I already like the scent!

Here's what I do, and this has worked many times. Sort of like cleaning fogged headlights. First start with a good plastic polish, actually Flitz is ok but I use Meguires plastic X. You can get this at most auto parts stores, I think I bought mine at Wal Mart. Get a clean cloth and apply the polish with some elbow grease. Now it should start looking a lot better but if you still have scratches you don't like here is the next step.... Sandpaper. What! Yes sandpaper. You need a piece of 1000 grit for the heavier work and 2000 grit to smooth it out. Now the places you worked on will be foggy.. Not to worry back to the plastic polish. You should be amazed at the results after you have polished for a bit. With patience you can make it look like new.

Looks like a decent grind. Keep us posted on how it turns out!

Oh I didn't mean to imply that at all I just wanted to make it clear should anyone be interested in the razor :)
Can't wait to read your thoughts on it after you've used it. Mine was order 1001 and I hope it'll emerge here in NorCal any day now.....

I know another one made it as far as Arizona today, so yours should be there soon. :)

Irving Barber Shavette. It was shinier, but this was taken after I shaved with it.
