  1. How does the TGN synthetic knot compare to the others on the market? I've tried the Plisson style knots and the newer Whipped Dog synthetic, and the WD is my favorite by far. I'm curious about the TGN, Tuxedo, and Simpsons synthetics.

  2. TGN is the only knots I've used. I've heard great reviews of the Plisson but have never purchased one, so I can't compare. Never used a Whipped Dog either.... The TGN synthetic is only $10 and I've got 3 brushes with them installed.

Who sells the Plisson, or WD, I may try them next. But I don't have any issues with TGN synthetics, so...

  3. Worst case is that it's really a Ranger Tech which is still a pretty special razor.

  4. Just received 2 shaving sticks from West Coast today with plastic containers. They also include 10 free Astra blades. I was disappointed in the containers in that I tried pressing the Palmolive stick into the holder and the center threaded stick broke under the push-up base! Oh-well. I will have to make a center hole in the Wilkinson before trying to inserting it into the other holder. After this experience, I would say the plastic push up containers are a waste of money and would not recommend them based on this initial experience. They are just not robust enough. Nevertheless, I am eager to try the soaps the next time I travel or sooner!

  5. Larry of Whipped Dog sells synthetic knots and Maggard sells the Plisson style knots. I find that my Plissoft and Maggard synthetic brushes have too much backbone for me and they feel too scratchy for my face, but the Whipped Dog feels as soft as a pillow and it splays nicely without being floppy. You'll find the Plisson knots in the RazoRock, Maggard, Stirling, and Shave Revolution synthetic brushes, among a few others.
  6. Awesome thanks. Looks like I'll be ordering a few from Maggards next.

The TGN synthetic is very soft as far as I'm concerned, so I guess I'd compare it to the WD, but as mentioned I haven't used his personality.

  7. I used a GSB in it tonight...still gives a good shave. Might be a good candidate for a revamp.

  8. Received this beautiful Mergress razor in record time from Bullgoose, literally ordered it at 3:45 pm CST Saturday and it was on my doorstep Monday at 4 pm. I almost can't believe it. They also threw in a free ink pen and a tuck of Polsilver SIs.

Also received my 100 Gillette Silver Blues from Connaught. It was cheaper to get them from UK with shipping than to get them here in the US. Go figure, I guess USD to GBP conversion is at work there.

  10. That's a big improvement over the plastic knob on the original Progress.
