Thanks! It was a very smart buy that I had no idea I was being so smart about at the time. I also have a '49, or at least after the point they started notching the center bar, which was around July '47. It needs replating too but the metal is sound so it won't be quite as difficult.

I enjoy following your progress with the brushless shave products. Would you say that the Portland General Store's Alpine Jelly is your favorite so far?

Same here. If you take more than three from a Feather, it'll take more than you want off your mug.

That could be the issue. Gillette Silver Blue, Sputnik and a few others are also Teflon if you have any to try to compare with.

I do not have any others that are Teflon coated. I have been using Astra SP and Feather blades primarily.

Razor: Gillette Executive Gold Adjustable Fat Boy (F 1) 1960.
    Blade: Kai Stainless Steel (3)
Brush: Rubberset 400 Unmarked w/Omega Pro 49 knot
    Soap: Route 66 Frozen Margarita
    Aftershave: Route 66 Frozen Margarita

After the deadly deuce team of Charlie (@wristwatchb), and Kathleen (@Salty Belle) tried to pull a fast one, I was able to figure who gave me a wonderful Christmas gift of 2 Route 66 aftershave balms. Thank you my friend Charlie. I really appreciate your present. This was the first time I've used the Route 66 Frozen Margarita Balm and it was wonderful.
Heading for the rack as I'm nursing a cold malfunction. I'll be up and ready for PT at 0530.
    Sorry for the indoor photo.

Doug, thanks for the kind words. You have a decadent set up this evening, and I'm glad you like the Frozen Margarita aftershave balm. Kathleen picked out the scents, and she is indeed very sneaky! :p Take care of yourself, get a good night's rest, and I hope you feel better tomorrow.

Not sure if this is the right forum for this question, but there seems to be tons of great advice so I'll try here first!
Here goes: I've been DE shaving for about a month. I definitely realize I have tons to learn technique-wise, but after the month, I just can't seem to get the same standard of shave on one side of my neck as I do on my face, chin or even other side. Have a N-S growth pattern everywhere except on the bottom half of my neck where it is basically E-W towards my ears.
I go WTG,XTG and ATG on the rest of my face/chin. DFS, if not BBS on occasion. On my neck it is basically WTG (E-W), then XTG (N-S) and XTG (S-N). Not the same quality of shave. When I try to go truly ATG, I get bad irritation. Seems to be the same regardless of cream- 2 different TOBS, AoS Sandalwood, (Proraso green is a little worse- me and menthol are not tight). I used brush and creams with cartridges for a few years, so am used to the creams.
Razor is a EJ 89lined. Have tried a few different blades as I work through my blade sampler. Derby first, and it irritated the worse. Astra SP now, not as irritating. Have Merkurs and Feathers left in the sampler. Not tied to using either. I always hot shower first, but have not tried a pre-shave oil. Don't use any alcohol-based AS afterwards- Nivea only when needed.
I assume technique will perhaps be less of an issue as I improve, but will sharper blades help me go ATG on my more sensitive neck area as well?
    Any advise would be appreciated.

    Screwtape A Shaving Butterfly

Of the three I've tried so far this week, I would say so. The Alpine Jelly worked well, has a pleasant pine and citrus scent, left a good skin feel once it was washed off, and didn't clog my razor much.

The Brickell also works well and also contains good ingredients for skin care, but didn't really give any scent at all and clogged my razor worse than the Alpine Jelly. It was okay with an injector or DE, but I think would be a bit of a problem if using a cart for travel.

To be honest, the best pure shaving result probably comes from the Billy Jealousy Hydroplane. However, it smells like ointment, clogged heavily (probably because of the semi-waterproof silicone) and I am not a huge fan of coating my skin with silicone either.

I have four others I am going to try: Burt's Bees Shave Cream, Dr. Bronner's Organic Lavender Shaving Gel, Kiss My Face Lavender Shea, and Neutrogena Skin Clearing Shave Cream.

The Neutrogena was my first shave cream years ago after starting (badly) with a puck of Williams and I used it regularly. It's been a long time though, and I'm curious to see what I think of it now that I have been using good, properly lathered soaps and creams and also other brushless products. The KMF apparently can be lathered as well as applied brushless. And frankly, I only have the Burt's Bees and Dr Bronner's because I didn't realize they were brushless products before I bought them. (A common problem apparently: I have since read several internet reviews giving the Burt's Bees cream a poor rating because it didn't lather well...)

We just went straight to the freezing drizzle yesterday and kept it around long enough to glaze the metro. Over 1500 accidents since yesterday morning, though today was quite a bit better. Headed for single digits tonight with some snow likely and highs tomorrow around 12!!

Winter is here, and I think we're getting what you guys already have. I won't be in a hurry to go anywhere tomorrow morning. I believe you work on the weekends, so be careful if you're out on the road. I plan to be home till noon or so staying warm, drinking coffee, and enjoying a nice shave with Tabac lather and a smoooooooth Russian blade.

Don't forget the Clubman Special Reserve to finish. Yep, got my bottle in the mail and I haven't worn it yet, but have enjoyed figuring out the scent.
