Nutmeg helped out again. She's not afraid of the Feather blade, and neither am I.

Thanks Clint. The MonoBilt is the crown jewel of my collection and one of my favorite razors to use!

This week’s catch up post, with some decedent products.

Monday I broke out the Mongoose, a new Kai Mild blade, The Shave Den Cool Water soap, and Aqua Velva Classic Ice Blue. Shave was smooth, and irritation free, and I even got my trouble spots on my neck cleaned up well. I thought it was a great shave. I did notice that it wasn’t as long lasting as some of my other shaves typically are. I had a visible amount of stubble that evening, and could have shaved again on Tuesday. When I got home from the office and changed out of my dress shirt, I also noticed that I had an angled welt at the base of my neck the exact width of the Mongoose head. Whoops. Apparently you can set this razor down too hard too. At some point I need to do a head to head of this razor and my Shick G, to figure out which I like more.

Today’s shave was a return to one of my big blades. A 7/8 Dubl Duck, along with Route 66 Twisted Tweed soap, and Fine American Blend. I have been struggling with my larger straights, as far as getting the same quality of shave as my smaller ones. Most people have the exact opposite problem, and find larger straights to be easier to use. I smell a focus in my near future. Today I did three passes with the big Duck, and got a DFS result. Not my best shave, but the alum was silent, and it looked OK. I was playing with angles on the blade some, and realized what the problem might be. I have always tried to maintain 1-2 spine widths from the face for angle. When you get a larger razor, and a thicker spine, the math isn’t exactly the same. I went a little shallower on the angle, and seemed to hit a sweet spot. I need some more practice to dial it in.

Good setup and picture Adam. How did you find the Kai Mild blade? I've heard that they shave well and aren't necessarily that mild. What do you think?

I like the Kai blade quite a bit. Its not as harsh as the Feather Pro, but is comfortable to use on day one. It does not seem to last quite as long for me though, I got about 8 shaves out of it, vs. 10 with the Feather. They are a good blade if your face doesn't get along with the feathers. Right now, the only blades I have for this razor are the Kai or the Dorco. I need to try the Dorco out at some point.

Irving Barber ~ Classic 2 Best ~ Stirling Ben Franklin Soap and Splash

Today's was a really good shave. I managed to clean up my neck perfectly, just a couple of little spots that I missed on the corner of my jaw under my ear.

I love a day shave when my wife is working because the Ben Franklin can come out. It is most definitely not my wife's favorite. So I am sitting with cheeks as smooth as glass, drowned in a little too much aftershave, and smelling like an old man's pantaloons.

It is a good day in Northern Mn. Hope yours is too.

I love that old man's pantaloon smell! It is probably the favorite scent of all my soaps/AS. Luckily, my wife likes it, so it isn't a problem for me to use it any time.

    Great picture, BTW.

Comrades, it seems you have a bit of a problem with hoarding. A decade or two of psychotherapy should provide minimal relief. I consider myself minimally supplied with ~1000 Feathers (DEs and SEs), 400 Astras, 100 Perma-Sharp Supers, 1 SR, a handful of Dorco carts, and 400 Polsilvers on the way. Oh, that reminds me...I need to order some popsicle sticks.

Thanks for the thorough comparison. I may pick up one of these products for travel. I'm already a big fan of Kiss My Face. We always have a container on-hand, and it performs as good as anything in my den.

    Decadent December continues with Tabac

So I went a little old school with the Omega Pro brush to balance out the new school Rocnel adjustable. Loaded the razor with a Super Iridium that already had a shave on it and dialed the razor to a 6. The big boar and Tabac always work well together, lots of rich creamy lather. Four passes with new razor and while it is to new to pass judgement the shave was one small weeper away from an epic shave.
