Decadent December 24 - blades and soaps

    Gillette Black Beauty ( 3 ) / PolSilver (1)
1930s Simms reknotted with 22mm Maggards blacktip synthetic
Finnish RazorMaster Uula coffee - scented soap
Alum and Portland General Store's Willow Toner

This was the same soap and brush as yesterday and again a great coffee scented lather. My first shave with a PolSilver: it's a wicked sharp smooth blade with two fast effortless crisscross passes leaving me with an irritation-free near-BBS. (Glad to see I'm going to like that 100-pack I bought.) Afterwards the alum was almost totally quiet. I then used the Willow Toner just as a change; it gives a good skintoning and perkup to the face.

I enjoy early morning weekend shaves since I get to take a little more time and enjoy the process. This brush and soap combo certainly provide a rewarding experience. The brush is firm with excellent backbone and scrub which I appreciate during face lathering. The scent of the Rossa is more subdued and lighter than the Blu but still feels the room. Making sure the lather is well hydrated allows for a nice slick lather. Sticking with a 2 pass, XTG & ATG, I paid particular attention to my trouble spots as I went. After minimal touch ups, I just missed catching the baby but ended with an fantastic shave. I hope everyone has fantastic Saturday.

Fantastic setup and a beautiful SOTD photo, Clint. Merry Christmas to you and your family!

15 shaves on the Super Pro blade - amazing!

Thank you Charlie. Merry Christmas to you and your family as well.

At this rate a package of Super Pro blades would last 9-10 months.

    Blade: Chinese Schick
    Straight Razor: Dubl Duck Satinedge
    Safety Razor: Schick I1 injector
    Brush: Vulfix 2006c badger
    Lather: Stirling Ozark Mountain
Post: Witch hazel splash, Stirling Ozark Mountain aftershave, Nivea sensitive balm
    WTG, touch-up

Straight razor shave #5. Used the new-to-me Dubl Duck that I won the TSD Raffle. It was honed by Glen a couple of years ago and not used since then. I didn't strop it since he recommends not stropped after honing. It didn't seem near as smooth as the other two razors I've used. I did my cheeks and a little of my chin before putting it down. It seemed to pull and tug a little bit more than the others, not too bad, but certainly didn't feel all that smooth. I'll probably need to resume in a few days once the crazy of Christmas dies down some.

The I1 injector finished everything off nicely. Nice, smooth shave in the end. I am beginning to wonder - if it ain't broke, don't fix it. I get nice, easy, comfortable, and satisfactory shaves with my injectors and SEs. Why am I trying to muddy the waters? The maintenance aspect of the straights alone is already a strike. I just don't have time in the mornings before work to fully embrace the straight experience. I think straight shaves might be a weekend activity if I were to stick with it. We'll see, I guess. I've enjoyed trying them at least and am thankful to all of you for your encouragement and help!

    Have a blessed Christmas Eve!

An edge on a straight will deteriorate over a few years time, even if it wasn't used. That razor probably needs a touch up on stones.

Wow, that looks like fun. I love music, but have just enough hearing issues that I can't play well. Doesn't stop me from trying though.

So I shaved three mornings in a row. Yesterday's shave with the Tech and Feather was bloody but efficient. This morning, there is not enough stubble to shave. May shave again tonight if the growth cooperates. Would like to send out a Merry Christmas to all of my friends on the 30 day thread. Hope it's great for you and your loved ones.

The consistency of that lather is insane Jared! I know I know...I've seen the video but still. Was it any different producing it in a bowl?

Thank you Adam. The Nuavia soap is a really nice soap. I love the scents and the presentation, however I actually prefer using MdC.
