I've been curious for some time about these discontinued drug store aftershaves that were spinoffs of the originals. It seems at some point most of the vendors got in the game (Old Spice Leather, Musk, Lime, etc.)(English Leather Timber Line, Wind Drift, Racquet Club, etc.)(Aqua Velva Menthol Mist, Frost Lime, Redwood, etc.)(Skin Bracer Cool Spice, Burnished Leather, Wild Moss, etc.) and many of these "extras" have been discontinued.

I'm a fan of Old Spices' and English Leathers' regular scents and their spinoffs so I've been curious if I might like Aqua Velva or Skin Bracer spinoffs even though I'm not a fan of their regular scents.

Skin Bracer Burnished Leather is very leathery. My first reaction is that they should have called it "Burnt" rather than "Burnished". However, my wife wasn't as critical and after several minutes the burnt smell fades. It's more leathery than English Leather but not as leathery as British Crown (which is leather upon leather Ad nauseam). I think I can use it but I can see why English Leather is still on the market and Skin Bracer Burnished Leather is not.

Skin Bracer Wild Moss is quite nice. Not as strong out of the bottle as the Burnished Leather and to my nose more of a barbershop smell than a moss smell when you first get a whiff. It dries down to more of a moss scent but rather subtle and elusive. This one will get splashed on today and we'll see how it wears.

The other two Skin Bracer scents I'd like to try are Spice Scent and Cool Spice. I assume that they're different but not knowing the history I'm wondering if one replaced the other.

The two Aqua Velva scents I'm curious about are Frost Lime and Redwood. I've seen the Frost Lime for sale quite a bit but the Redwood seems to be a rarity and the prices are always a bit steep.

The Stirling Soap Co. was for Christmas. The Omega Boar 81052 and C.O. Bigelow Mentha Body soap was for my Birthday back on the 14th. Not pictured is the Lucky Tiger Face Tonic and Aftershave I bought my self :) Wet Shave 2016-s.jpg

I went to the Post Office today and found a package of shaving goodies from a dear friend that I met through work. He's a wet shaving enthusiast who lives in Houston. His business travels recently took him to California, and he made a pit stop at West Coast Shaving. The cologne was a gift from my sweet Sister-in-Law. I'm excited about these new items going into my rotation.

The Aramis cologne is an old friend. Every time I use it, I remember my Dear Father-in-Law and a Dear Uncle. It's bold, so one spray is plenty. I've never used a T&H shaving cream or an SOC badger brush, and I'm excited to try them. I've used Stirling soaps, but Barbershop will be a new scent for me. And of course, I'm a big fan of Thayer's WH.

Found a toiletries kit with 3 razors in it. Found my first OC micromatic. And picked up another Krona, Eversharp Schick, and bakelite handle Gillette tech.

Glad to hear your input on these scents. I managed to pick up a vintage AV pokr chip set that has the Redwood, Lime, a white bottle, and a regular blue one. Most of the scents have aged and mostly smell like alcohol, was really looking forward to the Redwood but wasn't very impressed with the scent. The white bottle is the most present IMO although not sure if the plastic bottles they are in play any factor in how the scent ages.

I've seen the pokr chip set and I've also seen a fishing reel and lure set that looked interesting but I haven't bit on either yet.

You might be right about plastic vs. glass but I've also got skunked juice in glass before. There's probably more than one factor and you always take a chance with old products unless you find it locally and can check it.

I reread and edited my earlier reply after noticing that I had called the AV Lime by the Skin Bracer name. AV's lime is "Frosted Lime" and SB's lime is "Dry Lime".

Bought Lush 5 O'clock Whistle Shaving Smoothie & also received a sample of Prince.
Tried a sample previously and enjoyed 5 O'clock as something different in the rotation.
It really let my skin feeling great.

I just bought this Aristocrat and it's throwing me for a loop. I can't tell what year it's from. I'm thinking 1947. It's no notched, but the top end of the handle looks like a 1948 - 1950 notched model.. I didn't pay antique store price, but that's ok . The condition is marvelous! It just need to be cleaned and lacquer is starting to come off.

I think it's been determined that when Gillette changed over to the notched model they used their left over unnotched center bars to avoid wastage. It's probably an early '48

That's what I was thinking. The case is what is throwing that off for me. Must be early 48 late 47 run.
