Primo that is highly unlikely. There is something special about that brush. It will go on the lifeboat with me... Your restraint is admirable. Fortunately if you break your NB you can order from SV any time. Best of luck to everyone.
I play by your rules! I got some money for Christmas I am using to replate a razor. It would have actually done it by the end of 16, but I couldn't get all the details worked out quite in time. Either way, I still feel I am on the spirit of NB17.
It is not a new purchase, just cleaning up things. I am trying to use this same logic for sending a razor for replating, but failing miserably...
I respectfully suggest to you that this absolutely does not and should count. This isn't about saving money or not spending money, it's about not buying any product, and if you use a gift card that's buying a product. To me there are only 3 conditions under which acquiring new product is "allowable", as follows: - You run out of a CATEGORY product and need to buy one item (only) to keep shaving. eg, you completely run out of After Shave (not just proraso green when you have 15 other types of AS) - You ordered something in 2016 and it hasn't been delivered yet - You get a gift That said, this is not a legally binding thing we have here, so I don't think you risk a fine or jail if you ignore this.
Well, I personally feel comfortable "in my own skin". And do not feel that using a gift card is a violation of the spirit of the NB commitment.
I thought the whole point was to pull form storage and not acquire new. Folks are bragging on how much they have. 25 pucks of soap, 1000 blades and a gal of different Aftershaves. That will get you thru a year. With a stash like this or even 1/10th this much you can make it so why commit when you don't intend to be committed? Likewise. If you don't have enough to make it then don't commit. Or buy enough and then commit. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
No, no, no:. The point of NB17 is just as you described it. But the fun of NB17 is first in watching how many different ways people can weasel words to try to stay still officially "committed to NB17 " while filling their Dens to the roof, and then in seeing what products actually cause people to openly fall off the bandwagon throughout the year. Right now we are still very much in the weaselling stage...
Hello folks, day 5, and just checking in. No news is good news, literally, and figuratively. I was tempted the first morning to try to win an auction, but I remembered my oath here in time and I never even bid. I probably would have won the auction, but I'm really more interested in abstaining from any shave related purchases. On that note, for the continued good direction of the NB'17 commitment, I would like to suggest we not banter among ourselves. Joviality is great, until someone gets offended. Then we run the risk of intervention by a moderator, who may ultimately close the thread.
I wonder how long I can run this outfit... I only have 19 blades though. That's 20 days per blade. Shaving five days a week that's 14 shaves on a blade... I might just be able to do it.
Here is what I think about gift cards: If it is some nameless faceless amazon card you got from a work associate because you send business his way? No dice. Spend it on something else. If it was a gift from your favorite uncle who said he knows you like all that shaving stuff but he had no idea what to get, so please pick something out? Spend away. Those are pretty black and white, and there are a thousand shades of grey in the middle. Only you can decide in what spirit the gift card was given, and how that fits with your reasons for doing this in the first place. Generally speaking I think using a gift card from Christmas is weaseling a bit, unless a disclaimer had been made before the first of the year.
This isn't very hard anyway. All a guy needs to do is find something else to focus his attention on. It is only the fifth and I have already bought 17 vintage pocket knives from e bay.
Actually I have bought nothing, and am kind of enjoying it. I cleared my ebay watch list of all the shaving stuff. Truthfully this is the first restraint I have done that I feel almost relieved that I can't buy, instead of bummed out. We'll see if I am still singing the same tune in a couple of months... .
