Please move this post Mods if its in the wrong place: DISASTER!!!!! Posted by Giovanni Abrate on August 31, 2008, 9:14 pm A computer disaster struck today! I made the mistake of installing VISTA nad lost all my email, most of my programs and all my backups. I spent four hours talking to Microsoft in India and finally they gave up. Please, if you recently sent me an order, resend it as it is irretrievably lost. I tried even with an email recovery program, but to no avail. If anyone could post a note on SMF and TSD to alert customers of the need to resend their orders, I would be very grateful. Sorry guys, it's been a heck of a day. My most sincere apologies. Giovanni
Very sorry to hear about that. You use paypal for payments right? You should be able to email the people who have ordered and go from there. Huge bummer man.
Of course not. Vista is so warm and cuddly! It interegrates so smoothly with all your exsisiting software and hardware!
This kind of crap is one reason why my new computer scheduled to arrive on Friday will have dual boot capabilities with Linux and Windows. I still need Windows for a few programs that are required for my business. But I will eventually find replacement programs for them that run on Linux. So hopefully by Wednesday when I post here it will be on the Linux half of my new computer.
And what have we learned from this post a> No one at b&b orders from Gio b> Gio doesn't accept orders from anyone at b&b C> Intel hasn't installed Vista on any of its systems:happy102 I Love My MAC
Apparently, the reason I haven't had any trouble from Vista is because my laptop came with Vista, and wasn't upgraded to Vista, which is where the troubles tend to come from.
That sucks bigtime Gio. Hope you get up to speed in short order...I've never been a fan of Windows, been using Macs since the little B&W Mac SE, and have never looked back....
I wasn't intending to be a smart-ass Joanna, it's just that I, along with everybody else that had to upgrade, had a rough go of it. Among some of the hassles were the fact that I had to go out and buy a new printer because HP would not provide new drivers that were compatible with Vista. It is not so bad now, but initially, it was buggy as Hell.
I really haven't had problems with vista, except on computers that don't have the horsepower to run it. It is a memory hog, but I think it is extremely user friendly. Honestly, it is not designed for your old hardware. Throw away your SCSI scanner. Sorry.... You would not believe how many people at work tell us not to give them vista because of the Mac commercials. Great advertising.
As I said already, Vista was kind of buggy in the beginning, but has since settled in nicely. Although, not too long ago, I recieved an automatic update for Service Pack 1, and proceeded with the installation. This messed up my computer like you wouldn't believe! I thought I was going to have to format the hard drive and run my recovery discs, but fortunately, restoring to an earlier checkpoint got rid of it. I don't know about anybody else, but I am not installing any more updates from Microsoft no matter how critical they claim them to be.
