Thank you Charlie. It was one of the better holiday seasons I can recall. I made it into the office. Feeling the way I do I really need Doug's complaint department today.
To be honest, I'm not sure at this point. I had been thinking about ordering an unscented soap before this, but the comments from my wife are just mixed enough and the subject just touchy enough that I need to tread lightly. Just to be clear, I'm not a guy with years worth of soap in every possible scent. If you looked in my vanity drawer, you would find the following: - VdH Luxury - Cella - Williams - Arko - Marvy - Mineral Fusion (actually a body soap that just happens to perform well) - Nutragena French Milled Soap (another face soap that I sometimes would shave with) You would also have found a tube of Dove Hydrating Shaving Cream which I sometimes mixed with one of the soaps for a SuperLather. In retrospect, I may have done myself in with the Mineral Fusion soap. I used it fairly regularly for parts of November and December and my wife did mention the possibility of being bothered by the Bergamot notes. I probably should have taken that as a red flag and immediately binned it.
I live in a backwoods area with a single tiny grocery store for the county. They stock about half a dozen scents of Kiss My Face creams. If they have it for sale in your local stores than take her with you and have her sniff test them before you take it home.
John, I have a lightly used round of VdH Deluxe (Which has a very light powdery scent) and a Palmolive shave stick (Which also has a very light soap scent, actually smells like every other Palmolive soap ever made). I would happily send them to you to try if you would like. These scents are so light that unless you were within a foot of the lather or smelling the soap directly I doubt you could smell them.
Interesting... I've heard good about KMF. I'll definitely look into that. I'm honestly not sure. The operable word is mild, though. I need to try and get a better handle on what scents she can really tolerate in general. For instance, she has been having a hard time lately with the chronic nausea (which probably precipitated the shaving soap discussion) and asked me to stop using the Pumpkin Spice air freshener (which she picked out) as it was making her ill also. I am, even though you wouldn't realize it from my collection. I think I've really come to appreciate those few minutes in the morning with my brush and my puck of soap. To be honest, I think I took it very hard at first, almost a feeling of having had the joy ripped out of my morning. At this point, I don't blame her but am very angry at both the surgeon who botched her Gastric Bypass (who, last I heard, was removing boils at a doc-in-the-box dermatologist) and at the grandfather who abused her as a child.
I am sure the guys at the gym thought I was having an emotional issue this morning with how much my eyes were watering. I couldn't get them to stop, that menthol just hit me. It was great though!
XXX is a good soap with a scent Based on AdP. However Route 66 soaps are premium! The lather quality, post shave feel, slickness, and scent strength all outpace XXX by a long shot. There are other soaps that are also based on AdP that outperform XXX. and honestly I find myself wanting a little more slickness out of XXX. That being said I still enjoy using XXX and am glad I have it in my rotation.
Sorry to hear about the issues your wife is having. Did you look into unscented shave soap? I know several vendors have it out there. Also, I know some vendors make shave soaps scented for ladies. I think Stirling often has some. This may be an option for you as well.
Thanks, I'm following the Route 66 thread and leaning in that direction, but I'm open to other choices
Route 66 Bay Lime Twist B-400 Brush by Tom Dubl Duck Dwarf Thayers WH Ogallala Bay Rum Have a great week! I just packed for a business trip. In keeping with my focus. I packed a straight, my Drygulch strop, and a tub of Route 66. This should be fun.
I haven't used RazoRock XXX, but I have used some RazoRock in the past. I found it to be just okay in performance. Route 66 is far superior in performance, post shave, etc. You wouldn't regret a Route 66 purchase.
