With the difference in area; men's faces in square inches VS. ladies legs in square feet? The @Norcalnewb Baseball Lathering Pattern© helps guys that have problems with lather drying or dissipating between application and shave. I could see Ladies products being designed to hold their effectiveness for a longer period of time.
It turns out that the Wegman's near my office has the unscented KMF, so I picked up a bottle at lunch and will try it in the morning. Hopefully, it works well since it looks like there's enough cream there for months of shaving (or at least a 3-pass BBS on a Yak).
I had to take a brief break from shaving. I have bad allergic reactions to poison oak/ivy. Every winter when neighbors start burning leaves and such in their back yards, I break out into welts on my neck, almost like shingles. I smelled the smoke a couple of days ago, and broke out like clockwork. In the meantime, I got in a new Maggard 24 synthetic Brush and 5 samples of Route 66 soap. After letting it heal up a couple of days, I got back to work with shavettes. Magic Shavette with Treet blade (shave 2) Maggard 24 synthetic Brush Route 66 Cavendish (sample) Dickinson's Witch Hazel Stirling Sandalwood Balm RazoRock Puros AS Results don't lie with the Magic. Of my 3 shavettes (the others being a Feather SS non-folding and a Weck Sextoblade) this one stands on top for multiple reasons. It will take any DE blade, as opposed to the others. Blade exposure and angle of access make for very close shaves that don't feel as dangerous as the other two. I have yet to ding myself with the Magic. I usually get at least one with the Feather, I think due to the angle you have to come in at. I was really excited to try the Route 66 soap, and Cavendish in particular as I had heard they were strongly scented and good performers. Out of the five samples I received, the Cavendish had by far the lightest scent. It was barely detectable both before and during lathering. It's too bad, because the faint scent that was there hinted at something I think I would like. The little ketchup cups the samples come in are a little awkward to lather out of. But man, the performance of the soap was top notch. I was very impressed with it, both during and after the shave. Two passes with the Magic led to a very comfortable and easy DFS. No irritation. The Puros AS is fantastic, and blends well with the Stirling Sandalwood Balm. I can see a full tub of Route 66 in my future. Just gotta find the scent match. Is the Cavendish usually that lightly scented? The other samples seem to have a decently strong profile Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
While clearing a fence line I caught what I assumed was a dose of poison ivy. Having health insurance at the time, the Doctor prescribed an oral steroid taken in a dosage dccending from 5 pills per day, to 4, 3, etc. By the time I'd finished the meds the rash and itch were done. So much more effective than calamine lotion.
I have found all the Route 66 to be similarly scented. None have been stronger than the other. Take the soap out of that little ketchup cup (I love your description there!) and press it into some type of bowl or container. Then you can lather it much easier.
I can deal with them for sampling purposes. It's awkward but not impossible, and i am planning on a full tub purchase soon as the performance was impressive. Based on scent description I had high hopes for Cavendish, but don't feel I can get a good gauge on the scent because it is barely there. Bourbon Jungle and Rum Runner smell quite nice, though. Razor: Gillette Black Tip X 3 1952 Blade: Wilkinson Sword (3) Brush: Semogue 1305 Boar Tri Coloured Handle Wood Handle Soap: Route 66 Bourbon Jungle Aftershave: Route 66 Bourbon Jungle Balm Outstanding three passes with a clean up for a near BBS. Bourbon Jungle is in my top 3 shave soaps. Route 66 Bourbon Jungle has a rich woody notes of Italian Bergamot, Apple Wood and Tonka Bean rounded by hints of Patchouli, Cedar wood, and Oakmoss, with exotic notes of Cardamom, Vanilla Bourbon and Allspice. The aftershave balm is a great finish.
Wrap up day with Omega Pro: Used my top dog straight a Mastro Livi in mother of pearl scales. Since I wanted to go for an epic shave I pulled out the R66. This tub is hard croap and matched well with the big boar brush. 4 passes and zero blood, zero irritation and zero stubble left. It was an epic shave until I closed the razor and felt the edge catch on the scales ... the edge WAS perfect. Irritation A+ Closeness A+ Smoothness A+ Sharpness A+
Nice travel set up, Brian. I can tell you I am not brave enough to take my straights with me on travel!
January 10 - PAL and brush focus Gillette Black Beauty on 3 PAL Gold Thin Hollow Ground carbon (7) Muhle silvertip fibre synthetic The Eternal Tub of TOBS Avocado Cream Alum and Thayers Witch Hazel Original Nothing much new today. I like this little Muhle synthetic. It did a good job of taking a swirl of The Eternal and whipping it into a bowlful of yogurt. The PAL carbon blade has settled down nicely and is now both sharp and smooth. No need yet to try honing it and no indication I will have to for several shaves. My usual passes gave me a good close shave with no feedback from the alum.
